FPDM, 2004 F-150

Common failure part on these trucks up here in the rust belt. Dorman makes a direct replacement for much less than the factory Ford part. Are they any good? You late model F-150 guys please comment if you have any experience.

It is pretty well understood as to what the underlying problem is with Ford's original design of this part.

For the difference in price alone, I'd use the Dorman part.

They've re-engineered their part to avoid the corrosion found with the OE part.

AFAIK, the ford part has been redesigned to fix this issue.

I'd stick with the ford part.

I had my fuel pump control module replaced by the Ford dealer when it went out, and I believe the only difference from the original part with the new design is that Ford added a spacer to prevent the corrosion. I can't speak for the quality of the Dorman, but if it has the added spacer to keep it from corroding again then it might be worth a shot.

My understanding of these failures weren't due to a faulty part itself, but rather the way it was mounted to the frame, unfleshed, causing the case to crack and let corrosion in. Personally I would use the cheaper part and make sure it had a space to provide a flush mount.

I went under my 05 when I read about this issue and added washers to even things out. The case hasn't started cracking at that point so I added the washers and left well enough alone.

Fuel Pump Driver Module. It varies the voltage to the fuel pump since it is a returnless system.
