FP Plus and Sta-bil

I've been mixing both in the fuel I use in my lawn mowers and ATV. I know FP Plus says it's a fuel stabilizer, but I remember a couple of years ago I used FP60 only in some gas in my ATV and it turned bad with a distinct varnish smell pretty quickly. It forced me to pull the fuel tank and fuel pump to unstick the check valve. This was after Hurricane Ivan and may have been ---- gas to start with. However, I've been adding both lately and wanted to get some opinions on whether these two additives are competing or complementary chemistries.

I've been using FP as a stabilizer for a few years now. One thing I do when I park the motorcycles/ lawn equipment for the season is to add FP and fill the tanks with non-oxy gas (no ethanol). Once my stock of FP runs out I'll probably go back to using MMO or Seafoam. If I don't regularly add some type of stabilizer to the fuel every piece of equipment I have is a real b!tch to start after a month due to the ethanol gas here in Minnesota.

I tried a search for Sta-bil...Either I suck at the search engine or there is not a lot about this stuff...So can anybody tell me what Sta-bil is? or is it Super Duper Secret?...

I know it is fuel stabilizer...I guess I should have said what are the ingredients that stabilize the fuel?...I use it in an old tractor that doesn't get started much...

It's 95% Isopropanol. Don't know about the 5% "proprietary" active ingredient.

Mostly rubbing alcohol with Red No. 5 and a pinch of Coconut butter for fragance and seal swell...

The active ingredients in Sta-Bil might just be nothing more than food preservatives such as BHA, BHT, TBHQ or propyl gallate for example. Read a story many years ago (I think it was before Sta-Bil came out) about putting a tablespoonful of the straight preservative chemical right in the gas tank.

IMO FP-Plus is probably better and will help keep your fuel system clean too.
