Four Way Stop Sign Intersections

There is an increasing number of drivers who do not want to yield at 4 way stops. Even if you arrive at the intersection well before the other driver, they will not stop and will blow right through the intersection.
This is so annoying that I have resorted to a new strategy. When I approach an intersection, I will slow down and if I see a car speeding towards the intersection, I will stop and then proceed slowly through the intersection, thus forcing the other driver to make a complete stop at the stop sign. Of course this disrupts their plan to blow right through the intersection.

I really think they know that they are supposed to stop but they are in too much of a hurry.

Yes, drivers unaware of traffic laws. They don’t realize that blinking red lights at an intersection indicate a 4 way stop. First to arrive, first to be given the right of way. I’ve sat behind drivers who refuse to proceed thru blinking red lights thinking it’s a red. Welcome to the new America.

At least they slow down where you are at. Here they often don't at all. They see your stopped and blow on through.

They slow down because they can slam on their brakes and stop in time if they see a police car.

Blowing thru traffic lights and stop signs is a chronic problem where I live. I make it a habit to look both ways before entering an intersection, even when I have the right of way.

And yes, no one knows and practices traffic laws anymore.

I am very confused why police departments are crying broke. Pull people over more. Write more tickets that hurt and this problem will slightly improve.

Agreed. I see many many license plates with covers which make it harder to read them. Should be an automatic ticket.

There used to be a gentleman down the street who like clockwork would race his WRX past my house. It took one phone call with a few minutes to describe the color, model, year, general house location and smokey was there camping for a good few weeks. Give it a try and watch what happens.

Around here theres a versatile mix of people who are just plain stupid and dont have the talent to do a 4 way stop along with the distracted texters that never see the sign and the others that just dont care about stopping.

Honestly the other problem which I believe is equally bad is the TOO NICE driver at 4 ways. These are the ones who know they have the ROW but want to wave on the next guy because they're just so darn nice.

This does a favor to NO ONE as it interrupts the flow. Everyone should just follow the rules at a 4-way stop and things will go as smoothly as they can.

Seems like cameras with flashers would solve the issue with many. Even if they could fight the ticket who cares most comply. A flasher would help when it senses violation which is not difficult with modern AI.

Red light camera are only for revenue collection and have little to do with safety.
