Forester tapping/ Mobil 1

I have no dog in this fight, and consider Gary a Bitog buddy. Having said that there are certain members, Tig1, myself, and a few others come to mind that have a passion for certain products from years and years of use and success with those products. At times I/we might go over the deep-end with our passion. Some consider that odd, others consider we have an agenda, and others might think people like us might be on the payroll. I don't know Tig1 but I'm willing to bet he isn't on XOM's payroll, and I haven't seen a check from Turtle Wax, or even a free pint of my favorite additive for that matter. LOL

Now Tig might be an XOM stockholder, but that wouldn't make him a shill or a pitchman, just someone who believes in a product. JMO

Let's all be realistic here, both Gary and Tig have points and both have a history of getting into these arguments.

It's pointless to try to turn it into more or less. This is a discussion board, even if any person on here perceives some other person as a "shill", they are only one voice. It's not worth expending effort calling them out on it.

One voice is not enough that it's going to drive some fundamental change of information flow on the board.

The first post I made on this thread, I said I doubt that M1 or any other oil would make much of a differance in lifter tapping using the proper oil weight.

Again, no connection with XM, no relatives work there, no stock, just many years using their products.

Tig's not alone? As far as experience, no doubt. In behavior? Join him in the redundant drone if you subscribe to that type of behavior. over ..and over ...and over again.

Amsoil? Much smaller company. Different target market. XOM gave up on extended drains for about 30 years. Amsoil appeared to be the only one marketing that kind of oil. EP finally came out.

I guess I should have been a little more clear for you, Mobil 1 is the number one selling SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL!! You got a strange way of selling your beloved Amsoil these days, Good luck on your sales career.

I'd say it more a condition of questioning things that don't add up. Some of us are critical of our environment and when the door makes a different sound when it closes ..we pierce the thick layer of our existence bubble and say "what is not right here?" ..others may be preoccupied and not even pause as they entertain themselves with whatever has traction on their thoughts ..never stopping to ponder it ..giving it no importance in their hierarchy of needs.

There are, however, those who have difficulty with puzzles that defy rational explanation. It calls to them. They may not "obsess" on it, but cannot leave it alone either. So it sits on a back burner and (usually) random absorption of unrelated experience/knowledge/information becomes integrated ..and the puzzle is solved all on its own.


..but if you think that there are no shills here, you're sadly mistaken. While not directly related, I can show you a Yahoo Financial stock message board where the company had employees choke the site with garbage just to stifle criticism of the company's management. Everything from hockey scores to beer competitions. So, I would consider a casual "oh, that's unlikely" scoffing as being somewhat naive. That is, passive conditioning is a well used tool in marketing. Here would be an ideal place to hide in plain site.

The best ones are where the title of the thread is about (something like) Valvoline Maxlife ..the question is about choosing the proper weight for the condition and application ..and a lower post count (not too low - but enough that you would never recognize the username - not a "personality") side winds in with "blah-blah-blah I'd recommend (something like) Chevron Supreme 10w30 for 5k OCI's". Not on topic ..unresponsive ..and serving no purpose other than to throw that name in the thread. A human advertising 'bot.

Now I could see how the average poster could find this unremarkable ..but besides my odd take on it, each and every one of these shills are ripping off Helen and the site by freeloading. Let them pay and fully disclose their agenda like honest "good people" and not slithering spineless serpent deceivers.

Then again, P. T. Barnum had a point.

I've only recently become aware of the paid undercover product promoters.. I like to call them "evil deceivers" or "satans elfs" personally.

And amen to the rage that Gary is feeling... because I feel it to. BITOG is getting owned by human bots with dishonorable intentions... and it's sad. It won't be long before they are the only ones left, and then what? The board closes and the wisdom of thousands of honest enthusiasts is lost.

I'm not calling anyone out, just agreeing that, as Gary so eloquently states, the problem exists.

Back on topic, glad to here that M1 helped with the tapping noise. The H4 is a funny beast and makes all kinds of noises. What one might call lifter tick/tap, another might call injector noise, etc. When I first got my Forester I swore there was something wrong with its idle. 60k miles later, I've just accepted the inherent wobble that is the H4.

I'm not sure why the moderators let this(this thread srarted off fine with the OP)thread continue with the name calling. Since Gary called CAPA and myself out, I can only assume you agree with his description of us.(shills,slithering spinless decievers)

You say we are "satans elfs",etc.
This is a site about lubrication products, auto maintainence, etc. Why do you have to resort to these kinds of name calling?

While this thread has gone from its original subject (another reason to hit the notify icon folks) there are some concerns with what is posted at BITOG.

Sadly the new members or people out on the web who come here for factual info will not know the posting habits of some members unlike most of us who have been here for sometime and take that into consideration when judging comments for info.

The problem with threads like this until the OP kept the same oil and changed the filter or did other testing its very difficult to KNOW that the change of the oil "fixed" the "problem".

I'll lock it up now.
