Ford Reveals Police Explorer

I hope they offer it with the 5.0L along with the V6. 400+HP in the Explorer would make for a great pursuit vehicle!

I wish as well.

With this platform though, I just dont think it will happen. They would have to make major changes to the cowl/dash/driveline....How would they mount it and what transmission would they put behind it? N to S would seem impossible in the space they have, I cant even picture a 5.0 in a Explorer sideways.......this hope of ours with this new platform is nothing but a pipe dream I'm afraid.

What I'd like to see them do is bring back a 5.0 Mustang police pursuit package......THAT would sell! If nothing else for the DARE departments to run around in and show off.

That's pretty much what I was going to say... have the manufacturers offer a Mustang, Challenger or a Camaro police package. That's unless the rest of their lineup is plenty capable (say the Charger for example) and additional models would be redundant.

Maybe in a straightaway, but throw in some turns and it would get outmaneuvered by most sporty sedans.

That would be awesome if they offer it.

I agree the 5.0L would be awesome, but I'm with LS2JSTS. I don't think they'll be able to fit it in. Granted I haven't seen the engine bay, but it looks like it might be a little small for a 5.0L DOHC engine.

Though Police Tahoe sort of sounds like something you'd hear coming from the mouth of a pimp in the Bronx.

On paper, these police vehicles look good.

In real world, I think the new V-8, rear-drive, Chev Caprice police package will take the market over.

Cops are old-schol - they want as close to a rear-drive, body-on-frame, V-8 car as they can get, and they will get it with the GM police car.

Ford WILL regret this move.

Body on frame sure sounds like a better idea as, I believe, they are easier to repair. Unibody should cost a lot more in the long run.
