2007 F150.

Coming due for an oil change and I’m reading about people finding torn pleats when cutting open Motorcraft FL-820 filters recently. Is this really a concern? Should I run a Wix 51372 for my next filter? Motorcraft filters (or whoever actually makes them), were always known to be great OEM filters. What’s changed? Supplier?

For some strange reason, the FL 820S seems to be the more poorly constructed filter in the Motorcraft lineup. With recent unreasonable price increases, Motorcraft won't be on my engine when my stock is depleted. I probably will go with the higher end Frams.

Mann/Hummel Purolator is the vendor. If I wasn't going to use a Motorcraft filter, I would stick to Wix or the MicroGuard Select from OReillys. If you feel bougie, the Ford Racing ones are still nice.

Just for giggles: How many miles on your '07? I always ask.

Also, which type of spark coil / wire combo do you have?

I ask because a friend had the two 4-socket coils (one on each valve cover) with a wire to each plug in a '97. Fine.
EVERYTHING we read said it would have a coil atop each plug (COP).
That wasn't the only Ford "which ignition type?" confusion we'd heard of.

For me you know its bad with Motorcraft FL-820 filters when the TG2 seemed like an upgrade for my old F150. I sure did not want that black glue junk in my old F150. I will have to look into those M1 at the suggestion of Glenda W Thanks! Anyone know what Mobil 1 number is for the 820? I would like to find a Pentius PLXL2 if they make it. The sell the Pentius PLB2 on amazon I might order one to check out.

180,000 km (111,000 miles). Still haven’t had a need to do cam phasers or anything in the engine. Runs like a champ. I swapped out the OEM plugs at 120,000 km. 2 broke. I had the Lisle tool for removal.

Thanks Fellas, I’ll use the Mobil 1

Edit: The M1 website doesn’t show any products for an 07 F150.

Good info in here, I’ve gotta make some notes. the 5.4 in my ‘99 is due for its next oil change. Guess no more motorcraft filter for me!

⬇️ That's the old M+H Mobil 1 photo. The Highline Warren ones do not have the crimp ring around the base painted black, they are instead unpainted.
