Rented a '17 Edge ecoboost a few weeks back. It really was gutless. Maybe it had 85 octane fuel in it. Even so, the Edge with 4 adults was a four letter word, SLOW. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to drive it on premium fuel.
The Ford Escapes I rent with the 2.0 EB engine all perform remarkably well on Premium fuel.
