The 3.0TT was originally developed for the now defunct Lincoln Continental (2017–2020). It was an exclusive engine until the Lincoln Continental tanked. Since then the engine is used across Ford and Lincoln performance models.
Guess I’m glad I have my two 2.7’s. Zero problems but I’ve only got 5 years and 85k between the two of them. Has anyone addressed the most important question of all time in the history of engine design choices (if to which the answer is yes then engine is trash) in regard to the 3.0 yet? Does it have a wet belt oil pump?![]()
I replaced my 2017 NA3.5L 6speed F150 with a 2024 Ecoboost 3,5. I want my 2017 back. It was a simple truck overall, having less tech, and it idled smooth. The tech in the 2024 is flighty, choosing to lock up at times, and the 3.5 idles rough.It is Ford though, so I'm sure they dork up the chain drive in some way

I'd love to see Ford significantly reduce its engine offerings.Costs more to build 2 different engines when one will do.
How did we know this exactly? Did Ford say publickly before the recent announcment? Many OEM's stupidly keep way too many engines in the line up and historicaly have for well over 50 years.We knew they’d not keep all 3.
The 3.0L is the same CGI/aluminum two piece block. I believe it's even the same casting.I believe they also use aluminum in the block for the 3.0 as opposed to the CGI on the 2.7.
Reducing engine options makes a lot of sense for many reasons. Unless your Toyota right now that put all their flagship eggs in the V35A basket...I'd love to see Ford significantly reduce its engine offerings.
Reduced engine offerings have many seeds of equivalent benefits:
- technicians get more time becoming SMEs
- parts are easier and less costly to stock
- promotes more clear engineering- engineers have less challenges to solve
One could go on and on for the list of benefits by offering less engines. I always cringed when the Lincoln Continental returned to market last decade. Numerous powerplant options that were forced into a too small engine bay. No way a tech was going to be fluent and/ or desiring to service a Continental. Same with the seat choices, a bunch of options and I am sure the parts for the Continental seats are no longer available. Ford should have picked on rock solid strong performing powerplant for the Continental, same with the interior seats.
No pun intended- buy makes one wonder who is behind the wheel making these decisions at Ford to offer so many options, when instead people likely prefer reliability.

It's the same architecture and CGI block, but with larger bore and stroke. I'm guessing they'll detune it for the F150 because it'd be pointless to have 3 engines with 400hp, probably a 10% power/torque increase over the 2.7 and sadly it'll probably get GPF. I hope it gets port injection added as well, but who knows?
It seems like they are streamlining production for the nano engine. But I wonder what will happen to the Ranger and Bronco that uses the 2.7? Will it be dropped in those as well?
Either way, it'll suck to see the 2.7 go in the F150. It's gained a cult like following for good reason despite many that thought it wasn't enough for a 1/2 ton back in 2015. It's one of the most underrated engines in the 1/2 ton industry. Those that know though, they know.
I know what you mean. The 2.7 was doubted as being too small when it came out. But ended up being one of the best, if not the best 1/2 ton engine in the last 20 years.2.7 was the best part of my f150. They could have stayed on that thing for another decade.
Also, it had plenty of power. Goodness. And that was with towing a TT where we actually used the power. Darn fine tow vehicle. Best I’d owned for that. If the 10R80 had been better, we would have probably committed as a keeper even once something newer was needed for DD. Unfortunately too many issues were piling up as we approached 90k with it and I just couldn’t. From time to time I have admittedly wondered if we’d put the potential $7-8k in repairs into it, if it would have been worth it. We did get a good trade on it.

- another recirc servo, dash off, 1000 estimated
- timing set service, 3500 estimated (rattling and making metal in the oil)
- sync 3 was starting to act up?? Another 1k?
- door seals started whistling (extended cab). ?
The 10R80 has a storied past unfortunately. I think the 23+ is much better since it got the updated CDF and I’ve heard other updates as well. Just like the 10L80’s of GM, it all comes down to transmission tuning. I’ve read many success stories from reliability and transmission performance being improved with a tune.

The guy seems smart, but also seems a bit of an overhyped salesman.Tuning only masks the problems with the 10L and 10R valve bodies for a certain amount of time. Over time the valve bores still wear out and the valves get sticky or stuck completely.

I don’t how much fluid changes help with valve body wear. I plan to do a drain and fill soon at 35k when I install a PPE pan with a drain plug and new filter. Then try to do a D&F every 30-40k.
