Here's a thought.
An old short wheelbase fire truck is probably what you want.
They're typically very low mileage, they spent their working lives living inside and they're usually very well maintained.
You just have to find one somebody else hasn't already bought.
If you could find such a truck with an E-One body, you could probably get back a lot of your investment by scrapping the fire truck body, since it is alloy.
You could then build your flatbed or camper on the chassis.
