Ford 6r80 transmission overheating on track after fluid swap - mercon L to LV the culprit? fluid recommendation? dying transmission?

I made the mistake of trusting the OBDII scan gauge reporting that the fluid was up to 192f after a modest drive, once, when filling a 6R80. When I checked later after a long drive, it was almost a quart overfull. I use a infrared thermometer to verify, now.

Non-pro tip, get some heavy welding gloves before trying to check the level. The dipstick tube is a couple of inches away from the cat on my wife's car.

Sounds like you likely hit the water temp PID or you just caught it when first opening and the cooler oil from the cooling loop dropped the temp a lot.

Better than the glove (I've found) is a set of 11 inch curved long nose pliers

Glad you figured out the issue. Ironic to me that Ford made the dipstick hard to use, allegedly for economic reasons, so that you'll be more inclined to take it to the dealership, who then screws up the fluid level.
