Ford 6F Transmission issue

Mom has a 2009 Taurus, occasionally, there's an almost grinding noise while driving @ speed. not the low speed clunk covered in TSB 8-26-13 (that's @ 10mph or less),this sounds more like 2 of the gears just sliding along the top of each other. or a muted version of the sound a key cutter makes, for like 1.5-2 sec)
no CEL, haven't plugged in my scangauge to see if it pulls any pending codes.

From what I've read, the Ford version of the 6F35 is the Windows ME of the transaxle world...
