Ford 3.5L V6 Ecoboost oil filter Wix XP 57502XP vs Motorcraft FL-500-S vs Protec PXL57502 (all made by Wix/Purolator)

I performed a visual observation on these three filters. I dont have the tools to saw them open. All are made in the USA.

The exterior cans appear the same.

The Motorcraft and Protec both have oval style holes on the bottom. Bottoms look the same. Wix XP has circular holes.

Wix XP and Protec have same antidrainback valve.

This is a post from the F150 forum and it shows the Wix XP versus the Motorcraft. Main difference is Wix XP is full synthetic. Motorcraft looks like a blend.

If the Protec were to be opened I am guessing the can interior would have similiarities with the other 2 but it would be an inferior media. Chart above states a cellulose blend.

These are ALL made by Purolator/Mann & Hummel, and even though the FL500S has been decent in the past (but recent examples have had glue issues)-I’m not sure I would use any of these three… @car51 has had issues with the Pro-Tec filters, and the Wix XP has a rather low efficiency rating. If I went Motorcraft it would be the FL2121-B12, or even the basivcally equivalent Super Tach MP, AC Delco, or Champ XL version (all Champ Labs built).

I found a website where they got all of them cut open.

The XP is unfortunately a rock catcher and has poor efficiency.
