Forcing boot from USB

My only input is that maybe if it is a large USB thumb drive, perhaps the BIOS isn't suited for large external devices when booting. It is a large (32/64Gb) thumbdrive.

Not that this is reassuring, but my Lenovo T430 boots ubuntu with a 4Gb USB.

I've got another 32GB USB thumb drive that this Lenovo sees, so it's just some peculiar incompatibility between this Lenovo and this specific SanDisk 32GB thumb drive. It's a shame, because this specific SanDisk drive does really well with small files, which makes it ideal for an OS drive.
