If you were offered FREE, 10 jugs of SuperTech or 10 jugs of Mobil One, honestly, which would you choose?

(I am NOT bashing ST, its just an example. I use ST myself!)

I am sincerely interested in truthful responses. Thanks.

I'd use either. I'd be happy with ST to 7.5k, and M1 to 10k or more. Of course I'd take M1 over ST at the same price, but they are both API oils that are fine.

I think I will go with the ST. I've used it in the past and liked it. I've used M1 in the past and didn't find a reason to prefer it. My choice is based on I buy my oil from Wally World and don't see a reason to go elsewhere due to prices and the house synthetic is a good buy at so many levels.

From now on? I ll use my dealer. Why? They finally moved from mobil to total (what the rest of the world use on Nissan) I had free oil change included in the price but never used it since before they were using mobil. But now that total is being used for oil change I ll let them handle it. (okok I ll still bring my Walmart filter supertech USA since it's a combo oil filter. I am trying the driverwork and dam I am almost tempted to change oil a third time in 2 month . Oil .yep total .filter Walmart supertech with bypass at the entrance is awesome.(you have to watch some have bottom bypass other entrance bypass. I prefer entrance bypass

I'd pick Mobil 1, in the back of my head I know 90% of the vehicles will do just fine on Super Tech oil.

Unless you have a sports car, Mobil 1 is not necessary.

If you placed them both in a container (we are talking about SuperTech synthetic?) with only their approvals published and asked the same question I think the answer would be that one isn't superior to the other.

Marketing and brand recognition is VERY powerful in this industry.

I'd likely take the Mobil 1. If I can run it longer than the ST conventional, then I can stretch out my savings even further.

At 10 jugs, that would be an additional 30 months of oil (at 2.5k miles more on the M1), so another 2.5 years would be just fine by me. Though I'm not sure how the M1 would stand up in storage for a decade.

I don't know what OEM approvals ST has ... so would probably only consider ST for my 5.3L (out of warranty) and it will not outperform the Delvac dino in it now ...
I'd sooner grab the year end specials than ST - but it seems to be decent stuff ...

I'd take 10 jugs of M1 5W30, save 2 for myself, and return the rest to WalMart (taking advantage of their generous policies). I win all around because I already use M1 (various kinds) and will get more money from returning the M1 than ST.

OK, seriously, I'd take the M1 because I'd be more confident it would help keep LSPI from being an issue in my car. If ST synthetic gets the dexos1 Gen 2 license, I'd certainly consider using it (depending upon NOACK and cold performance).

Forgot to mention that I would still try to return to M1 jugs to WM filled with water and/or used oil when I was done with them... ;^)

Of course I am referring to ST conventional oil.

I presumed the title made it evident.

So: ST CONVENTIONAL or Mobil 1. Both FREE. Which would you honestly choose.

In that case, I'd take the one that carries Dexos-1 approval.

I'd definitely have to go with the Mobil 1, as Subaru says I need to use synthetic in my FXT.

I've got to say that I'd go with Mobil 1. I'm at a place in my life that the cost of motor oil is not significant*, so I can look at the purchases I've made in order to tell. I've bought Mobil 1, I've never purchased SuperTech (conventional or synthetic). Why Mobil 1 over SuperTech? I just have a better warm-fuzzy about Mobil 1 over SuperTech. That's all.

* OK, it's just a little significant. I STILL can't see spending $50 for a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 Annual Protection over $25 for a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 Extended Performance.
