For those running Formula Shell.

Well, it seems my Subaru likes Formula Shell...or at least the blend of FS and old Pennzoil conventional that it is currently running. Definitely quieter at start up and idle than previous, although another change was oil filters, as I found the one I was using did not have an ADBV or come anywhere close to Subaru bypass specs.

So, for those who run Formula Shell, where do you find it? I usually only see it at Ace/Walgreens/etc for prices I would pay for M1 and PP at Walmart. I just picked up the FS last time because I didn't have enough Pennzoil conventional for a fill and the FS was on $1.99/quart sale that week.

All of the local AAP's and AZ's have a large stock of FS in all grades. At one its $3.29 and the other $3.49 per quart.

Target always it, but usually only 2 or 3 grades.

What were yuo running as a filter before? I used to run a 1 qt FS 5w30 and balance Rotella T 10w30 triple protection. Now were running the new formula Pennzoil HighMileage GF-5 5w30 and it likes that! Our Forester gets around 30MPG mixed driving.

I've ONLY ever bought Formula Shell from Costco... I buy it by the 12 pack.

Currently I've none in my stash, but I was using it up until my last OC on my Saturn.

I'll probably get another case when my Walmart sale oils in my current stash run dry.

Tis a great sleeper oil. Inexpensive, stellar performance.

At times O'Reilly (Checkers) has the Shell oil for $1.99 no limit no rebate.

Excellent performer and along with Chevron I think 2 sleeper oils.

I've gotten it for a buck to $1.50/qt at walgreens on sale with rebates. They usually let you have 5 quarts for the rebate.

It seems like SOPUS's "I don't want to step on your toes" oil, that they don't like to line up against Quaker State or Pennzoil Conventional. So you see it in the weirdest places.

I don't run it (I would, great oil!) but I know for sure that you can find it at the Shell gas stations. I know that one is probably obvious, but they actually have good prices on it there.

BJ's Wholesale has it for about $26 or $27 a case every day.

A few OC's had base model Fram (yeah, I was expecting the WalMart quick lube to use SuperTech not Fram.) and the most recent was a Fram Extended Guard (the just Silver one). The P1 is closest to Subaru's Honeywell filter and within $1.50 of buying the Subaru filter. My car is long past warranty, but I figure the bypass spec is there for a reason. And now that I can actually do my own oil changes again, hooray.

Thanks for the heads up, there is one of those close by.

I was surprised it has one of the higher Moly contents of oils tested by PQIA. I might go with a run of the new SN Pennzoil conventional next, but all my car has had since I got it as 63k miles has been the Yellow Bottle. Car had good records, and the previous owner ran whatever was the bulk at whichever place serviced the car. It has had Valvoline conventional, VDB, Pennzoil conventional, GTX...never been more than .5 to 1 qt low for 4-7k OCI's. Haven't driven a Subaru yet that didn't use a little oil past the 5k mark though.

My local Shell only sells Pennzoil actually! I know, weird!

That's where I got it last. $1.99/quart made me happy. Hopefully they will run it on sale sometime in the next 5k miles or so
