Here is Champ's disection and a teardown. No coil spring, no metal end caps. But not all of the Super Tech's are made the same so maybe yours did have these features. The efficiency is reasonably good, but not great, from what I've seen.



Ecore filters are generally used in applications that have the bypass valve in the oil filter mount. For all other applications, all the Champ filters have a blue plastic spring loaded bypass valve of high quality.

Your test would make a good Carnival Show trick but really has no substance to it.

I am an engineer in the aviation field and do much destructive and non-destructive testing on a daily basis of fuel, oil and hydraulic filtering. If I used your testing methods and came to the same conclusions that you have, I would fired.

I am gonna show the guys at work this post for a good laugh.

Years ago, before Al Gore invented the internet, I got to wondering if Fram filters were worth the premium over Super Tech. The AC 1177's for my truck had become hard to find. I started chopping filters open and measuring the filter area. I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened a PH 3590. That was thelastorange can I ever bought. I have learned a lot since then largely here. The one thing I have never gotten a handle on is the quality of the media. If cutting it or tearing it tells you nothing, can you tell us anything that will?

Looking at it under a microscope can give you an idea of the density of it's fibers. The more dense the matrix, the better the filter.

I've only taken apart about 30 filter so far. This was by far the easiest to cut, and it's not like I started out saying this is a ST it should be easy to cut-wasn't even thinking about it till I was almost through, and thought W T H? . I will use up the one I have left though.
