So it's a little early, but just getting research done first. Most likely getting a new Focus really soon. I was planning on running the FF for 2,000 miles, and changing it out with Pennzoil Platinum, PureONE and changing at the recommended intervals (7500 miles). Anyone have any other suggestions?

Sounds good to me. The Motorcraft filters are also an excellent choice.

Sounds like a good plan. This has been beaten to death, lots of pros, and cons. Unless the engine has a special FF and they want you to keep it in for a certain amount of time or miles I like to get it out early. I did a 500 mile oil/filter change dumping the FF. Then I ran Pennzoil conventional for about 2000 miles, dumped that and made the switch to synthetic. Now I follow the suggested OCIs.

I would run the F.F. to 2K and then change the filter with a Motor-Craft, top up and continue to the 7500 mile mark.
Then change with whatever you want. IMO this facilitates break-in properly on a Ford engine and keeps the factory fill which may have special additives in it, in longer.
I have always been of the opinion of dumping F.F. between 500-1K miles and refilling with bulk-dino but these newer engines are more precise and IMO shed less metal during the first couple of OCI's so I see no need to change it out early.
I suggested changing the filter early to ensure adequate flow in case there is more metal than normal.
Keep in mind 99% of people don't dump it early and run it the full interval and those engines see long lives.

Make sure you get a killer deal on the car . I just bought a new 2010 focus for my daughter because it ddn't cost much more than a late model used one with the slow sales and the year end rebates. The oil change is I think 6 months 7,500 miles? i haven't driven the car but my wife likes it and my daughter loves it .It s a basic model with an auto trans and some kind if electric door thingie and an optional radio . The oil change is easy.

I forgot to add I 'll change the engine oil and filter around a 1,000 miles and the trans and filter at around 5,000 miles then go on the recommended oil change intervals.
So i guess you won't be using the free maintenance lol

Sounds good. It is one of the easiest changes I've ever done -- especially on factory fills. I did mine at 1500, and am running MC/MC filter for about 3k. I will then switch to synthetic. The factory gorilla was very weak compared to those at Ford's truck/SUV plants. The original filter came off with ease.

Personally I'd do Motorcraft filters with Mobil 1 0w20 or 5w20, but you'd be fine with pretty much any oil that is the right grade for this engine.

I'm with everyone else, I absolutely LOVE the Motorcraft filters. Best stock (cartridge) filter for my car by far, and I've sampled most of them. the FM is the only one that comes w/ an inner cage to prevent collapse on extended drain intervals for my car. The cool thing is, off the shelf it's just about the cheapest filter there is, other than like supertech. I love their filters.

Perfect year' round pick for that bumper to bumper Philadelphia traffic @ 7500 mile OCI's. Probably could do 12,000 OCI's, no sweat.
When the Amsoil is used up, I have some Motorcraft 5W20 FULL Synthetic bought during the recent Adavance Auto Parts clearance. Like everyone else, using Motorcraft filters is tough to beat.

I'm also pondering this same question as I bought a new 2010 Focus recently. (Presently @ 800 miles.) I'm not sure if Ford's FF has any special additives? I'll probably do the first oil change/filter before 2k mi. using Motorcraft filter and MC 5W20 oil. This is a nice little car! Be sure to get the 201A package which has the leather-wraped steering wheel, auto dimming mirror, cruise, audio controls on steering wheel and SYNC. A really great package and easily worth the extra $.
I work at a Ford dealership and many of the new Duratec motors are going to a 10k mile or once a year interval. I think the 4 bangers are still 6 or 7500 though. I would say you could even run the motorcraft or Kendall blend for 7500 on those engines.

As I have a 07 Focus, have you seen many high mileage Duratechs?
