That did not cause you to get a cold. Viruses cause colds, not being cold or being in wet clothes in the cold.

Yes, but getting chilled/cold helps to break down the immune system, there by allowing the viruses to take hold.

I don't take medical advice from some who have oil in their garage simply because it was cheap and they have no viable application for said oil.

Then by all means take your Dr.'s advice and get the shot.

Be sure to ask him about any other stuff a smoking hot pharma rep dropped off this week you might need.

I visit many hospitals because I travel for my job, I notice many doctors did not get the flu shot this year.

You can tell because their hospital ID badge will have a sticker indicating whether they got the flu shot.
A good 80% of all the doctors I've seen Did Not get the flu shot...

That makes sense. I was going to have a checkup next week, but my doctor cancelled due to illness.

People in this thread still seem to think that exposure to the virus immediately causes the illness...and therefore the only way of not getting the illness is the shot.

If that was simply the case, then there would be no-one here posting...we would never have made it this far.

I don't think its fair to imply that. I understand that the 40% effectiveness merely means that it will prevent flue in 40% of the composite strains in that particular year.

I have had the flue (that I can remember) once when I was in college. And I can still remember it. I am gonna say that in the last 40 years that I have been vaccinated, it might have prevented me from getting the flu maybe only a couple times. But I would guess that it decreased symptoms of potential flu episodes in probably several cases...who really knows.

I just see the vaccine as very very cheap insurance with zero downside.

I suppose itd be interesting to know what are the oil change habits of the non vaccine takers.

Are you treating your car with the same logic( only the necessary oil change with the cheapest on sale api oil that meats the specs. And anything else is profit for big oil?).

Something to think about if you are treating your carcare differently than your healthcare

The hospitals I visit want the staff to get the flu shot, if they don't get the flu shot they simply need to wear a mask in the patient care areas.

Hospital doesn't force anybody to get the shot. Again... I see many doctors and nurses decline it.

Not quite sure how that strawman applies as "logic"...

But now we are there it can be just as easily turned around to a bunch of people blindly following Jiffy Lube's "must change at 3,000 miles", and then taking all the upsells while there as cheap insurance...

Jiffy lube are the oil change experts, so following their advice to the letter is surely doing the best for your car.

You're grasping. I haven't heard anyone that doesn't get regular flu shots say they're sick all the time. They're simply doing what works for them.
