Flow Rate for Purolator PureOne L14016

Has anyone been able to find the flow rate for the Purplater PureOne oil filters? I have been inable to find it on their website or obtain it for their hotline. I contacted customer service via email and was told I would be contacted by the engineering department, but that hasn't happened. I would like the days for comparison purposes, especially since Purolater claims such a high rate of particulate removal.
 
The data you are looking for hardly exists to the consumer. SuperBusa was able to get Purolator to flow test a PureOne PL14006 (a medium sized oil filter). I think Purolator tested it just because they wanted to ensure it didn't make LS1/LS6 engines go in to filter bypass when guys took their car to the track.

Don't worry ... PureOne's will flow way more than 99.99% of the engine's on the street will put through at it ... including your engine if it was at redline all day long.

You asked about the "L14016" which is the Classic. Classics will probably flow just as good or a hair better because the media is a little less efficient.

Thanks. I was trying to compare them to Napa Gold filters. Napa has the flow rates online. They keep offering to forward my info to engineering very politely but nothing comes of it.

NAPA has flow rate data of their filters on-line. Wow, that's a first. If it just says something like "Max flow = 9 GPM" then that's pretty nebulous. You really need data like Purolator gave SuperBusa to know exactly what's going on.

Can you please provide a link to the NAPA data? Thanks.

Here's the link. You're right, it's not detailed. It says Flow Rate : 9 - 11 gpm. The rest of info is really just the dimensions of the filter. And, if memory serves me correctly this is the only filter they provide the info for. I don't think they have it for the Silver or the Platinum filters. But its more info than I've found for most of the filters I've looked up. I would think this info would be standard and would be a selling point.

A filter manufacturer saying: "Flow Rate : 9 To 11 gpm" is as bad as saying: "Efficient at 5 microns".

Both are nebulous statements because they are missing the data qualifier.

If they said: "4 PSID @ 9 GPM" or "40% efficient @ 5 microns" then you have real data.

Most oil filters (except for Chinese counterfeits filters with media made out of old Kellogg cereal boxes) will flow at max engine RPM with an acceptable delta-P (PSID) drop across the media. Keep in mind that the engine's oiling circuit is typically ~15 times more restrictive than the average oil filter ... so the oil filter is adding a very small amount of flow resistance to the total flow circuit that the positive displacement oil pump is feeding.
 
Valueline: One thing you might want to keep in mind... the Napas are made by Wix. Wix used to be the gold standard for information on line. These days, it's been "softened" and is no longer showing the pinpoint accuracy or detail it once did. Just don't expect to be dazzled by either Napa or Wix any more.

For the most part, looking for "flow" is a tail-chasing exercise because most filters have 2-3 times what the engine they are spec'ed for needs and the major restriction in the lube system is downstream of the filter. This is because they need lots more in reserve for when the filter is loaded.

It could be a selling point IF the data is favorable. If a filter manufacturer doesn't give the full story on the flow or filtering performance, then they are lazy or just trying to hide something that may be viewed as unfavorable by the consumer.

That's why I like filters that show the ISO efficiency test data ... like Purolator and FRAM (Ultra). And now that we know Purolators flow just fine thanks to SuperBusa, then there's noting else you need to know.

Just to clarify, when I called I asked about the Purolator PureOne and he told be the number was L14016 for my vehicle. I guess its moot since he wasn't able to give me the information I was requesting.

I agree. Honestly, I was suspect considering they have not been forthcoming when I asked them for the information. But the PureOne seems to be a forum favorite from what I have read.

Yep, that's because it's hard to beat the PureOne for performance, construction and value.

The correct part number for the Pure One is the PL14016.

What's interesting is that Purolator's "where does it fit" tool comes up with nothing for L14016 or PL14016. Strange.

I know they make one because I have one on my Honda right now. Otherwise I am in big trouble...
 
^^^ Saw your post above right before I was going to ask if it's actually a L14610 instead of a L14016.

That explains it now.

So there ya go...it was wrong by a digit...explains the confusion!
 
More like 2 digits ... the 6 and the 0 were swapped.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about if it can flow enough oil or not for your engine base on the reasons given earlier. If you want to use a full synthetic media filter instead (which might flow a bit better than cellulose media), go with the FRAM Ultra XG7317 ($9 at Walmart), which crosses over to the Purolator 14610. I'm running an XG7317 now on my V6 Altima, and have used PL14610 in the past. No issues with either one.

Heard so many negative things about Fram, it kind of scared me off. Is Fram Ultra the one with the additives in it?
