fleetguard lf16035 oil filter issue

I ordered an oil filter and decided to change my oil today. When I removed the shrink wrap from the filter I noticed that at the very bottom of the filter their was what looked like 3 drops of resin/glue I assume. It looks like it just sort of splattered when they assembled the filter. Im concerned about using this filter due to the fact that it is in the part of the filter that goes straight into the engine. They look like what a drop of paint would look like and they are about the diameter of a pencil eraser. Do you think I would be able to send it back to the place I bought it from and have them exchange it? I paid 13 dollars for the filter and 7 bucks to ship it. I really don't want to have to waste 20 bucks. but also don't want to worry about this causing a problem for my engine since it is a 6.7 cummins turbo diesel and is not exactly cheap. What do you think? I'll see if I can get some pics up if I can get a good picture.

Return the filter for another if you question the filters quality.

It is most likely fine but as you said it is going on an expensive engine. I would send it back and Get a Baldwin or Donaldson. But by any means it is better to be safe than...S.O.L.

Most likely, the glue won't budge off the metal. The glue was designed to stay in place. However, being it is in the donut hole on the can where direct flow COULD induce it into the engine...I would complain if you installed it, tell them you want another filter and a couple of qts of oil, OR, return it as stated above. Seems lately, since the manufactures have these made in foreign countries....quality control has slid quite a bit.

Luckily I have learned to inspect everyting before starting the oil change so I don't go uh oh and be SOL. Thanks for the replies. Im definitly going to complain and send it back. I doubt they will be happy that I removed it from the shrink wrap cause then they can't just give it to the next guy. I can't really see if their is something wrong with it until I open it up. lol. I am sure you guys already can tell that I pay attention to the details and take care of my things extremely well.

I HIGHLY doubt it would cause a issue but if you feel uncomfortable by all means exchange it,,FG filters are of very high quality,we use them all the time on 1/4+ of a million dollar pieces of equipment.

Well I talked to the place where I bought the filter and they said they will send me another and to just throw the other one away. That was easy. Too easy. I figured i would atleast have to send it back so they can send it to the manufacturer and get reimbursed. I guess I will cut it open. How do you cut one open without making metal shavings?

with a filter cutter,do a search many posts about it.

It makes sense for them. No one wants bad filters around, but things happen. Donaldson credits me for anything I can find before giving it to a customer.
