The most recent torn FL-400s influenced me to change my oil a bit early. I planned to run it 2.5k, but ended up taking it off at about 2.1k. Poor photo quality, but it is indeed tear free.

The end cap fell off.

The wavy media at such a short OCI confirms my theory that waves have nothing to do with overuse and can start early into the OCI. Heck, maybe it was made like that.

The date code said 907251413. I don't know how to translate.

I cut open a FL500s after only 1k (six month, truck sat on the lot for a while and had the wrong oil in it anyway). It was wavy too but no tears.

Still, I won't use them over 5k. Too many reports right now of torn media.

I use them on the 2 L Escort because the filter mount is in a difficult spot and the Motorcraft is shorter than the Wix, but maybe I'll go for Wix in the future and just struggle getting it into place.

It looks fine. They didn't fall off, you probably just ripped them off with your bare hands. Have you been working out?

I don't see how it could be.

My Jeep sees plenty of highway miles and as far as I know, it doesn't have a failed head gasket.

My 2 cents and uneducated guess is maybe from when the vehicle sits when you are not driving it. Other than that I dont know

Because in the winter, during warm up, you get a fair deal of condensation going on and it ends up going through the filter. The waviest Motorcraft filters I have are from winter runs. The ones from the same batch (I bought a case of them) run in the summer don't get wavy.

And any time you do a short trip, that moisture-laden oil sits in the filter, exposing the media to moisture. Even long drives after the fact that flash off the moisture in the oil don't change the distortion that has already happened to the media IMHO. Based on what I've seen with my own vehicles.
