Have a air leak in my drivers side door window...any cheap ways, without replacing the material itself that I can eliminate my windnoise problem?

Does your weatherstripping seal against the window glass or against the door frame? On any new vehicle I've purchased in the past I've put a silicone based lubricant on all the rubber on the vehicle, and have never had any problems. It also helps to prevent the door from freezing to the weatherstripping in colder temps. This is a better fix if the rubber seals against the door frame rather than directly against the glass as this stuff can be a little messy until it is absorbed into the rubber. It may not help any if your weatherstrip is damaged and too far gone.

...That would stop the leak as long as you didn't want to open the window anymore. Ha Ha!! I think that product is designed to harden after application so as to seal a leaking windshield for instance. You are looking for something that won't harden and just lubricates the rubbers.

Thanks for all your help 7TFord.

I do have one favor to ask of you...could you find a product on the permatex site that you think would help me out.

Once again, thanks.

Permatex really doesn't offer a product for that application. Most of their stuff is sealant oriented. All you really need though is something along the lines of a silicone based shoe treatment or even vaseline.

In the past I have use a GE silicone sealer, both in my headlights and the rubber. Don't recall the number. I use a little waxpaper over the silicone and a little wax paper to use as a putty knife. Just make sure it's clean and dry, and extend past the edges as much as you can without going overboard. If you try one of these silicone tubes, buy a small tube or you'll have it til it hardens in the tube.

Pull the seal out from the metal and place some masking tape behind the seal and reinstall it. You can use electrical tape which might be better. The key is to shim the seal out slightly to seal the window. Once you get the seal out to seal the window you can pull the seal again and place a sealant behind for more permanence.
