Just bought 3 high end fishing reels. I have never used anything other than $30 combo's from wally world my whole life but I had a lot of problems last season so I splerged this season. What oils are good for fishing reels? I bought 3 different Pflueger reels with the tops end being the Patriarch 9540.

A fanatic fishing friend of mine recommended this:

I use Abu Garcia in my Revo's, Max's, Shimano, Quantum, and my $30 Shakespeare reels for the youngsters ...

What makes a good reel oil? I'd bet most bitog'ers have something perfect already on The shelf.

Kano microil, triflow, synthetic atf?

I have used grease, superlube grease on my salt water reels.

Off topic, but do you like Pflueger over Penn for salt water surf fishing?

how much are you fishing?
I don't think there is any salt water in NE so just some light oil will be perfect,
I would buy a synthetic 0w20 quart and use a hypodermic needle to apply it.

alantani is the bitog of Reels, check out his forums,

Drag maintenance might be equally important for ya, if you want smooth drag!

Being fishing equipment comes into contact with water, you want an oil intended for fishermen.

Whatever you choose, be sure you test how it reacts to water first.

use fish oil, those little gel caps you can buy at your local pharmacy.
any spin-off will attract fish like nothing else!

I would like to be fishing about 5 days a week. I was looking into royal purple and Lucas fishing reel oil. I know Cabela's by my house has Penn oil which is part of the pure fishing brand that owns Pflueger. I have some PP 0w20 in my car already. My Mirage takes 0w20. My old Shakespeare reels lasted over 15 years with never being oiled so I'm sure its not a huge deal I just want to protect my investment.

Those are nice reels,
You will probably need to take them apart to oil them and grease the gears and the bail spring.

Check this link out

and then look at your schematic.

Check out your drag and you could look into upgrading your drag, with an upgraded drag and drag grease you will be smooth as a creme brulee
