I've had fish tacos before and liked them, so the other night I pulled together some ingredients and made my own.

Panko Breaded Tilapia Filet
Soft Taco Shells
Mini Red, Orange, or Yellow Pepper
Mango-Peach Salsa
Shredded Lettuce

Cook the fish through. The filets I had called for 20 minutes at 450 degrees, flipping halfway through.

Once the fish is cooked, cut the filet lengthwise and place each half in a soft shell microwaved for 15-20 seconds.

Top with sliced pepper, lettuce, and the salsa.

It's really easy to make and pretty healthy. Depending on the side of Tilapia filet and what shells you buy, a two taco serving is only 400 - 500 calories.

I love fish. That sounds like a tasty meal that's good for you. It sure is a lot healthier than beef. Driving down to Key West and visiting other Florida coastal towns and Savannah on the way home. Will have fish every chance we get.

I make them all the time. I make a Mexican style cabbage slaw to go on top.

Use a bag of cabbage slaw mix (that has carrots in it), add in some diced red bell pepper, a diced red onion, lots of cilantro, and add mayonnaise/sour cream mixture for the dressing. Then add the juice of a lime and a little cumin or taco seasoning, salt and pepper. It's awesome on fish tacos.

I like to use cod marinated in McCormicks mojito lime marinade, and then grill the fillets.

I like fish, i've had the panko tilapia fillets and they are good. I like tacos, but i find the idea of the fish taco unappealing.

Wife and I took a motorcycle ride last week to a place famous for their fish tacos. The place is right at the river. I hope they didn't catch the fish from the river.
Just under $10 for 2 fish tacos. 2 a piece filled us well for a nice lunch making the ride back nice.
Our first time having fish tacos.

You don't know if you like it or not until you try it.

I didn't like fish taco at first, didn't try it many times when my family went to Wahoo until last year and I love it.

GOtto lovem, and they are pretty healthy , find some good oil like organic peanut, Safflower , or combo with sesame or pecan oil, use simple or Oriental style batters, mix and match on salad material you want in Tacos, we grow our own Jalapenos, and Anaheim Peppers, so we know what we are getting , our Fresh cold waters in this area are ok, told by ,"Game and Fish", yes i know most of you know it as Fish and Game, but here they wanna be different...anyways the Ranger Cool Gal said don't eat those Fish more than 3 times a week, but hay for most of us in this group are already exposed to a lot of weird stuff anyways. That is why we move to a place with good sweet watta wells. Have Fun and just dig in, Fish tacos are really good . For those with sensitive buds on their tongue, try Walleye,Cod or Halibut- worth it !

I resisted the fish taco for awhile but eventually gave in. (I do work about a mile from the original Fuzzy's Taco Shop) Addicted since then.

I've since tried to reproduce Fuzzy's fish tacos. I've gotten close.

Grilled or tempura battered fish
corn tortillas
lettuce or cabbage
Tapatio or habanero sauce
sprinkle of Cheddar, Monterrey Jack, and Feta
The garlic sauce is the only thing I've not been able to reproduce accurately.

I try to use US farm raised tilapia. Chinese farm raised tilapia is way more plentiful but I am wary of it.

The place I get them around here is top-notch delicious. You can either get them with cod or a variety of other seafood including shellfish. Excellent with the slaw....never had it any other way. As a side note....NOT a fan of that nasty warm water Tilapia however. For me it's a third world fish that often has a muddy flavor.

Yeah, I don't like farmed tilapia either. It's quite flakey and soft, which I don't like. It's often muddy tasting. And probably worst of all, it has very low omega 3 fatty acids and a high omega 6, which is bad.

In the unlikely event someone tries to make my slaw recipe, I made an error. The dressing is a 50/50 mix of mayo and ranch dressing.

We have one here and i didn't even know it! I'll check them out.

To the OP, I see you live in SE Michigan. If you like fish tacos, you must make a trip out to Sagebrush Cantina in Lake Orion. The best fish tacos around, and the best tex-mex restaurant I've ever been to.
