First turbo vehicle for me....oil thoughts?

Yes! I strictly burn the 91 Octane from Shell and 0W30 Mobil 1. Was thinking about maybe that new edition from Mobil 1, "Restore & Protect" 5W30. Our winters aren't severe & vehicle is garage kept. So I think I can get away w/ 5W30. (I hope!) This "Restore & Protect" is SUPPOSED to eliminate sludge etc. with constant use of product. Again, thank you for your answer H.S.!! Be Well!

don’t worry too much on the filter from what I learned with Hyundai and their GDI issue twice a year I’d change the oil at 3500 mile intervals use a full synthetic buy in bulk when you see sales

Do you think the car dealer (the 3 free oil changes) uses synthetic 0W30 grade? I have a gut feeling they don't, because 0W30 is more $$$$ and because not many refineries produce it. I'll bet they use a "blend" of some grade. I know you don't really know, I was just running it past you. I don't trust dealers as far as I can throw them!!! I would ask them but they would probably lie like a rug!!

I've got +140k miles on my 2L Hyundai turbo. No issues. Ran Mobil 1 0w40 mostly, Started out with 5w30 , now with 5w40. clean as new inside. 5k oil changes.

My Kia lives near 40w and it's a 2.0MPI.. The Amsoil 0w30 Euro clocks 12.3cst@100. It's a thickie compared to the Amsoil Signature Series 0w30, which is right around 10.5@100.
If I had the turbo, 0w40 winter and 5w40 summer. Probably Mobil-1 Euro in SP cert.

Have that catalytic converter checked out. Odds are a ton of used oil from prior failed engine made a mess in there. It may be near-shot and they're expensive to replace.

Had to replace the catalytic converter twice on a Kia Soul+ 2.0 liter engine due to oil fouling. Cheapest route was to find an aftermarket cat and have it installed. Dealership wanted 2100.0 for certified Kia parts and additional $400 for labor to install the certified Kia parts. Good advice to replace the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensors while doing the catalytic converter replacement.

They all lose some viscosity to any number of things. Every oil decreases in viscosity with increasing temperature and is also affected by fuel dilution if that is occurring. Shear of the VM is highly dependent on engine design and quality of the modifier.

A no-VII oil will not be affected by shear however. The oil molecules are too small.

I hope yours stays together. Same conditions as you, a little less mileage, mostly 40wt of one variety or another. Tune for about 60k miles. No oil or interval stopped the carnage.

It's not the same engine FWIW. The 2L T in the Gen Coupe is based on the NA 2.4L Sonata motor.
