No oil I used could help when mine blew up. I don't care too much now that I have a new long block. Go with synthetic 40 wt and 3 to 5k oci.
Your mileage is when mine started it's death spiral. Same conditions as you. Just took a while to kick a rod out, they would not accept any other sort of evidence that it was dying. Ymmv. They all do. . . that's my point. I represent only 3 data points--I've owned three Hyundais over 15 years, two currently still in my "fleet". All have been reliable and very economical to own. I've had ONE major problem with the 2019 in my signature--an early transmission problem that was addressed with a transmission replacement--no problems since. The 2014 in my signature is powered by the supposedly most-fragile engine in the H/K lineup, the 2.0L GDI-Turbo--that engine currently has over 100,000, mostly short-tripped miles since new--it runs like new, pulls like a freight-train and doesn't burn ANY oil. The only things replaced in that vehicle have been the oil, brakes and tires. Yup, some H/K vehicles have problems out of the gate, just like any other manufacturer, but overall my experience with Hyundai has been very good. I'll likely buy another at some point.
High Performance Lubricants No Viscosity Index Improvers.Fred, could you help me and tell me what HPL NO VII means. Got a feelin' I'm going to need it "down the road" a bit. Thank You!
As folk mentioned, its an oil from HPL which does not have viscosity index modifiers, thus it does not loose viscosity temporarily or permanently. Also their oils has high cleaning characteristics which should help keep turbo clean from oil depositsFred, could you help me and tell me what HPL NO VII means. Thank You Sir! I have a 2.5 Turbo and all I read about them (Turbo) are not very good. But I guess you get good and bad in anything today. Again, thanks for the response! BobHigh Performance Lubricants No Viscosity Index Improvers.
The newer Smartstream engines, which is what I assume you're referring to with your 2.5T, don't have the issues of the Theta IIs.Thank You Sir! Thank you for the feedback! As far as a "Smartstream" engine, is new to me. Anyway, I have a 23 Santa Fe Calligraphy, 2.5 T. I guess that is a S/stream. I'm retired awhile now and she and I don't do a lot of driving. Mostly short hops (food shopping etc.) and I hear it is HELL on my pistons etc! Again, thanks a lot for your insight!! Ah yes, you have a Smartstream, which is a LOT better than the Theta II engines. I also have a 23 Calligraphy 2.5T and feed it Shell 93 only and Amsoil SS 0w30 because I want it to be as healthy as an ox.Thank you for the feedback! As far as a "Smartstream" engine, is new to me. Really ! bet you can't convince the neighbour they are better 18k and his smart stream gave up the ghost.Ah yes, you have a Smartstream, which is a LOT better than the Theta II engines. The Severe OCI is six months or 5,000 miles on those engines, so just stick to that like glue and you'll be golden.
Yes really! Got any empirical data or just what happened to your neighbor or the guy at the grocery store? If we're going that route, I own a 2023 and two 2013s...I suppose that makes me an expert at anecdotal evidence.Really ! bet you can't convince the neighbour they are better 18k and his smart stream gave up the ghost.
And his isn't the only one i have heard of locally.
Good for you i'm happy you have good service from your 3 well two anyway !Yes really! Got any empirical data or just what happened to your neighbor or the guy at the grocery store? If we're going that route, I own a 2023 and two 2013s...I suppose that makes me an expert at anecdotal evidence.
Use the search function. There’s dozens of threads on this oil.Fred, could you help me and tell me what HPL NO VII means. Got a feelin' I'm going to need it "down the road" a bit. Thank You!
My No VII Euro didn’t lose any viscosity at all even over a 15k mi OCI. That LSJr video that investigated shearing found the No VII 5w30 sheared just over 1% in the KRL test- in other words, it didn’t.don't all multi-viscosity oils lose some viscosity, even if a small amount of shearing can occur?,,good question, even in no vii oils?
GM 2.4 comes to mind. I'd sooner buy a Hyundai.Pick any car brand--I'll show you premature engine failures.
Yes! I strictly burn the 91 Octane from Shell and 0W30 Mobil 1. Was thinking about maybe that new edition from Mobil 1, "Restore & Protect" 5W30. Our winters aren't severe & vehicle is garage kept. So I think I can get away w/ 5W30. (I hope!) This "Restore & Protect" is SUPPOSED to eliminate sludge etc. with constant use of product. Again, thank you for your answer H.S.!!
