Certainly not the end of the world, but if the goal is repeatability of extended OCIs then having questions on efficiency rating having a decline significantly; due to the bypassing of unfiltered oil, isn’t lining up your goals.I got a good price and wanted to try out their extended service. 7k miles interval. I have seen other filters fail the light leaf spring test. Most all filters today have some kind of issues.
MicroGard Select and Mobil 1 Extended Performance are my go to regularly. Purchased some AMSOIL products and I got 6 filters. Not the end of an engine or the world for that matter
Therefore, it’s likely to be in the best interests of the vehicles long-term health to maybe just use another filter that does the job with immaculate construction these days; which they do exist such as the other filters you mentioned.
I wouldn’t necessarily mind running these Amsoil filters for shorter intervals in a pinch, but it’s hard to excuse if I’m extending the intervals.
Why? At a minimum, the number of times this unfiltered oil; and therefore particles, get passed through the engine before being picked up is now an unknown. If the defect wasn’t present, I’d know and have more peace of mind that the filtering performance lines with the goal of extending the interval.
Amsoil themselves are saying this is an issue they are aware of, but since they don’t make their filters, it takes more steps to address; plus the parent company in question has gone bankrupt. It’s a mess.
The oil itself should serve your vehicles well.
