Amsoil oils?

I am running AMSOIL Signature Series series, or the top of the line they call it now. AZOQT. I plan on running life of OLM on 2011 Mustang, with a filter swap around 5K. OLM almost always runs around 10K.

How are the newer Amsoil oils. XL or OE series, and how would they compare to oils like Pennzoil Platinum, Ultra, or Quaker State Ultimate Durability?

The AZO is the new formula of the SSO. It's supposed to be better then the old SSO juice.

I've tried all three in my cars with used oil analysis posted.

If you plan to do 10k OCIs, the "Signature Series" line is what you need. Although the XL is rated for 10k or 6 months, it didn't fair too well in my 07 Civic. OE and other SS oils had more life left after x amount of miles.

They're all good oils and will get the job done, as will PP, PU, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, etc. It's all personal preference, IMO.

I feel that if I am going to run following the OLM, then I am going to get something good. The OLM has run about 9-10K if I calculate the percentage to mileage run. The OLM also does not know I could be using a bad dollar store dino.

So I'm going to either:

a) Run Amsoil and follow the OLM, with a filter swap as I have plenty of Wix and Motorcraft. Again 9-10K

b) Run Pennzoil Conventional and go 5k and change both oil and filter.

Why change the filter midway? Any "decent" filter will be just fine for 10k. I personally prefer Mobil 1 and the like, which are designed for extended drains.

I'm currently 3000 miles into my OCI with their 5w20 and a Wix filter. I will take this out to 6000 miles or the end of May, whichever comes first. I change oil 2x per year. Spring and Fall.
So far I'm satisfied with the XL line. Lots of short trips.
My next change will be with Napa Syn as I stocked up when it was on sale, with Mobil 1 filters.
I'm also about 3k miles into an OCI with AAP house Synthetic on my other car. No issues their either.

Anymore I think most syn's will get the job done well.

I always run filters 10,000 miles with Schaeffer oils, and the oil analysis reports are always good. No sign of anything passing the filter that should have been caught. I use Toyota/Denso filters in the Tundra and MANN filters in the Volvo, no cheapo filters.

I already have so many filters I stocked up on when car was new. I have mostly WIX 57502 (About a dozen) and Motorcraft FL 500S (about 8). Think I ended up paying a few bucks for each somewhere.

Not sure on running them to 10K. I trust the Amsoil more than the filters.

I did my own test A few years ago, two OCI of 12,000 miles one I changed the filter at halfway and the other one same filter for 12,000 miles. UOA was basically the same. Changing the filter half way through a OCi is a waster of time, money and effort.

2x. Insolubles in my recent test went from 0.3% @ 7.5k miles to 0.2% @ 10k on the same oil / Mobil 1 oil filter, as it became more efficient towards to end of the run...

used oil analysis from last year and 5k OCIs on Mobil 1 oil filters showed 0.4% - 0.3% Insols...

Changing today's high quality oil filters mid way through a "short" 10k OCI is pointless and is a waste of all of the above.
