Hey everyone. I am brand new to the forum, and I must say, I have learned alot about oil and filtration from this great site.

I have been running extended drains with mobil 1 for a long time. I also have been using K&N pannel filters for about 10 years.

At first I was a little alarmed about the whole discovery with lower filtration levels. I soon came to realize that It has never effected a 10 year old car, with 180k+ miles on it.

Also K&N's website has this new video and webpage, with a guy whos gone 1 million miles on a truck and had a K&N filter in it. I can believe they dont filter as well, but I will never believe it doesnt filter as well as to make a difference.

But anyway, I hope to learn more about motor oil, and it seems I picked a good one!

Be talkin' to ya.

kind'a makes ya wonder why GM, FORD, DODGE, NISSAN, TOYOTA and the rest dont use a k&n or a knock off from the factory dosnt it???

what does k&n know that the auto makers dont??? or better yet, what do the auto makers know that their not expressing??

Spongebob it doenst make me wonder at all. Cost and profits. Its a big money maker in the service department. It's also by far the cheapest to manufacture. If a paper filter works perfectly (which it does) and it is as cheap as they come (which they are) why try to complicate things right? There is no other reason besides those two.

No one is arguing that anything is better here.

I am guessing your question is not serious as in they should use a K&N, I think you are trying to make a point.

Put it this way why does GM performance, Mopar/SRT division, Nismo, and TRD in fact do use K&N or equal??? Why do they go as far as to remove the stock air box?? I can tell you that a stock airbox is simply designed as it is to reduce noise, and keep water and heat from the intake air, and in no way filters better then an open source.(whether the open source is paper of cotton) These designs are to satisfy the majority of drivers.

It all comes down to that the majority of motorists can be taken care of cheaply and safely. (with a paper filter)

I've used a K&N in my wifes Jeep since new and on my Jeep until I sold it. Now it has somewhere around 160K miles. I've never had an issue with the K&N and the UOA's come back just fine. Blackstone even commented on one report that the K&N filter was serving this engine well.

No, not really. Many car owners wouldn't do the proper maintenance on a regular filter (i.e. replace it as needed). So how could you expect them to correctly maintenance a K&N type filter?
