It is a 2016 CRV. I am running close to 4K miles mark now so I was wondering what is the consensus among the forum nation here, when to do the first oil change on it please. However, My dealership put the sticker for the first oil change at 5K interval and I have about 50% oil life left per my car.

I Thank You.

I'm at 1900 miles on mine but I'm waiting for spring to do it- its like 11F out now.
I think 2000 miles is a waste but 4 or 5K for a first oil change is good- id do it soon.

I own three 2014 Honda's - TRUST the Oil life indicator! I start scheduling the downtime at 30% and I use Mobil 1 0W-20 and Honda oil filters. That has averaged out to around 8K on each oil change.

Agreed to leave the FF in to MM indicates change, however as stated in your quoted link and previously shown elsewhere the FF is not what contains the moly. Honda uses assembly greases and sealants that contain the moly and it leeches into the oil over the OCI.

That does seem to be a lot of moly. Even so, I'm a big fan of early first changes, can't say I like all that extra material running around in there. Plenty of vehicles on the road that were taken care of - both ways - and have over 250k miles....

1500 is my mark for the first oil change.

Follow OLM and you'll be fine - keep it topped off. If the dealer requires you to come in at 5k to get the free service, that's a different story. My buddy just bought a new Hyundai Accent and they required him to come in between 3500- 3750 to get a free first change.

You answered your own question. At 5k, get your first OC.

Thank you all Great People!

So I'll stick to 5K the closest, or as MM indicate the latest.
And I don't know whether my first oil change will be free, but it wont hurt to call them.

Standard protocol these days is usually a couple free oil changes at least. Use them up first.

If you have nothing in writing to say it will be free, I doubt it will be free then.

Keep the FF in until the MM hits 10-15%. I've done it that way on all of my Hondas/Acuras over the years, and my dealers have told me the same thing.

If your first oil change isn't free, then the dealer just wants more $$.

So I called them moments ago... I don't have a free oil change but I have a coupon sent to my email address. They charge about $50 for Mobile 1 and Honda oil filter. In addition, the tire rotation is $15.

Regarding the oil change interval, a service guy told me the first oil change is at 5K but future oil changes are performed by following MM indicator once it hits that mark at 10-20% of the oil life left, or roughly each at 5-7.5K miles interval, depending on my driving habits.

From all you've said this dealer is highly suspect for being full of baloney.

DO NOT change the oil at 5K, change it when the OLM says about 20%. That original fill needs to stay in long enough to break the engine in.

Do you have another Honda dealer you can call?

Many oil burning Accords esp the V6 have one thing in common, early oil changes. While those that waited till the MM was close to 10-20% report no such problems.
