Well there have been camo'd, artist renderings, concept and mule pics of this new compact RWD offering from Cadillac for months now. But this week GM released the first official look at the profile...kinda.

Cadillac XTS and ATS info

"By adding a "uniquely American" performance car and a larger luxury sedan, Cadillac can fill out its lineup and be better equipped to challenge the German rivals' 3-Series and C-Class models, respectively, Mark Reuss, GM's president of North America, said Thursday.

"We are going to ... take the competition head on in those segments and beat them," Reuss said.

While Cadillac's news was widely anticipated, Reuss showed a teaser photo of a silver Cadillac ATS at the Center for Automotive Research's Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City."

Good for them. The US needs more sedans with the engine driving the proper wheels. Now if Ford would only bring over the Aussie Falcon, even calling it a Lincoln my life would be complete.

Very nice, I like the new Cadillac's.

I'm also glad to see RWD is making a bit of a come back, I still refuse to own a FWD vehicle.

That side profile reminds me of the current Mercedes C-class.

Maybe it will look different once the camouflage is taken off, and the lighting is better.

Compact Cadillac?

....didn't they learn from the Cimarron??? that was supposed to be a 'BWM fighter' that was going to 'win'.....

I'm guessing it's built on the Cruze/Verano platform....just like the cimarron was built on the Cavalier/Skyhawk platform?

GM has a short corporate memory!

BTW, I'm sure this will be a great car, but who's gonna buy it???

:P

Nice contribution.

BTW, comparing anything rwd today with a decades-old Cavalier? Hello? Not exactly relevant.

Anything rwd at least gets a look from me. Glad to see it.

My guess is a Cruze platform, modified for RWD. I mean, look at the body lines, it appears almost identical to the Cruze. Not that that's a bad thing, mind.

And your "guess" would be completely wrong. The platform used will be known as the Alpha platform, essentially a shortened version of the CTS Sigma II platform. A mix of both Zeta and Kappa, much like the current Sigma.

This new Alpha platform will be the platform for the next gen Camaro and for the next gen CTS as well as this ATS.

Neither of these have anything to do with the FWD Delta II platform that underpins the Cruze.

Sorry man, nothing official just the usual internets gossip and rumours...

The base engine rumours run from a 2.0 TT LNF variant up through the DI V6 engines.

The ATS-V, yes, there will be a V version of this ATS....well those rumours are centered around either a 3.0 TT V6 and a new variant of the LS line, a smaller displacement 5.5 ltr V8. My money is on the Twin Turbo V6 3.0.

That last option would be SWEET, as long as they built the whole bottom end strong enough to handle more tuned boost!

I'm looking forward to the XTS. If it's a nice as I've seen in pictures, I may trade my CTS for one.

I wonder if they will offer it with a diesel and a 6spd? Just might as of late Caddy has been hijacked by drivers, really loving it!
