The service light came on at 10% showing the B123 service at about 29k miles on my wife's 2013 Pilot EX-L 2wd.

Apparently Pilots require drain/refills about every 30k miles.

It takes 3/8" ratchet with extensions, breaker bar and 17mm socket to remove the trans fill boltthat faces upward. It can be reached through the engine compartment on the driver side.

To remove the drain bolt, it only takes the 3/8" ratchet and short extension inserted into the bolt to remove.

Both fill and drain bolts take crush washers. I only replaced the drain bolt's crush washer.

From local Honda dealer, it cost $38 for 4 quarts Honda DW-1 ATF and the crush washer.

Overall, Honda made it very easy to service the trans. Only problem is that there is a non-serviceable internal filter that can be only accessed if the trans is removed or taken apart.

When I bought the Pilot new, I had the dealer install the Honda OEM trans cooler (standard on 4wd). I may tap into one of those line and install an in-line filter.

I agree, as most don't even do the D&R on most cars, you'll be doing this one a favor and it will last quite a while.

Yep. I loved how easy ATF changes were on our 2008 Honda Odyssey. To me, easier and less messy than an engine oil change.

I may just perform a second drain/refill at 45k miles (15k from now) then a 3rd at the required 60k interval, documenting each time.

I've got the Honda Care 8yr/120k mile $0 deductible warranty for a bargain so I keep all receipts and follow the OLM. Honda has it set up nice because their OLM alerts with certain codes (A or B then 1-5) based on required services:oil, atf, coolant, air filters, diff, x-fer case, etc.

So although I can't do extended engine OCI's, the ATF will prob get changed out a few extra times vs what the owners manual recommends.
