Firearms storage

A safe.
A closet with a false back panel?
Under your pillow?
Gun Cabinet.
You question is too generic we talking long guns? pistols? ammo?

Sams club and TSC have good prices on gun safes.

Why not a safe? Regardless of whether you are concerned about children or not, a gun safe does provide a very good storage method. Depending on the safe, a gun safe has pockets for pistols, gun shelfs and such.

My BIL stores his firearms in the back of a very large storage room/pantry, off the side of of the kitchen. The pantry has a LOT of nicely constructed shelves, so he uses this to store his guns.

How many pistols? If you have a few, a pistol safe may work. I have one that fits under the bed. But it could also be put in a closet. I know some models hold up to 4 pistols.

Regardless of whether you have any children to be concerned about, what about theft? For me, I hate the thought that any of my firearms would ever be used in a crime. So I hesitate leaving a pistol just sitting in an end table drawer.

Have you seen some of the shelves and wall pictures that pistols can be hidden in? That may be an option if you want to keep a pistol near an entry point.

10 pistols at the current time I have them locked up in a file cabinet.

I found a slightly used Stack-On rifle cabinet years ago. I use that to store mine. I made sure to carefully anchor it to concrete walls of my basement... of course, all my power tools and prybars are also stored nearby in the basement, so, "safe" is a relative term. [It's a relatively thin sheetmetal safe.]

It's ok for rifles, I did expand the shelf for pistols. I don't lock up ammo.

Will say: when shopping, estimate how many guns you have, then buy twice as much safe... it's a bit like a shed or garage, "I'll never need that much space!" is a lie used to try to justify the cheaper option.

Most of mine live in the safe, but my daily carry lives on a chair, bed, counter, or wherever it is convenient when it's not attached to me.

Kid is grown and responsible and we rarely have visitors with young kids, when we do they go behind a locked door or in the safe.

I use safes with simplex 5-button locks. They are reliable, secure, and can be opened quickly when you need them, even in the dark, solely by touch, no light or visual needed. Electronics and biometrics have too many failure modes (batteries, fragile electronics, etc.) and can fail when you need them. If it fails closed, you can't get your gun when you need it. If it fails open, an unauthorized person could get your gun.

Fort Knox makes heavy duty thick solid steel handgun safes with these locks.

The question of children is a red herring. Everyone of any age, child or adult, who enters my house is an unauthorized person unless I know their level of firearms training and experience. It's important to have them secure from ALL unauthorized people.

If you have several firearms where do you store them? Besides a safe? Looking for suggestions.. No Children to be concerned with.
A gun safe but that may not be for you. Mine are each in their own case, in the closet where I can get to them quickly, if needed.

I have mine in a safe of some variety (EDC goes into a single pistol biometric safe near the bed, the rest go into a large "24 gun" safe), but I have kids,.

If I didn't have kids, Id probably have most of them in a big safe anyway, and a nightstand pistol in a drawer by my bed.

Is the question fueled by security concern or maintenance concern?

I store most of mine in the main house space which is ACed so it does not get too humid.
Prior to long term storage (like a multi year work assignment) I will clean and lube them heavily of course.
I wish I had the option of airtight boxed and to throw in desiccant packs but I do not own such boxes large enough for long guns and the ones small enough to fit handguns alreeady ahve ammo in them to protect.

Construction site style job box (Knack is the best). Way more sturdy than big box store cabinets. Many different sizes. You can laminate with wood panels or paint to blend. Or both, maybe upulstry the top for a bench. Or raise and make the top a work bench

Large steel toolbox...like the kind you see in contractor's pickups. Screw it into the floor of a closet and put a good lock on it. There are many different sizes available.
This is how I store my ammo.

My guns in my safe (overfull) and ammo in a nice large JOBOX with a concealed lock and box chained in place.
