Some AC installation manuals mention the use of "finishing tape" for over linesets. An example can be seen here:

Linesets usually have an armacell type insulation which I guess isn't very uv resistant. Sometimes the vendors also want the linesets, wires, drains, etc combined in the wall.

So if there is no spec or recommendation, what is the appropriate product to use as finishing tape?

Thanks!

Worked on insulation products from the research and manufacturing side for many years. They are indeed not UV resistant as they are made from a bend of nitrile rubber and PVC along with aluminum trihydrate as a fire retardant. Here are a few things to know:

1. All manufacturers make a paint for the insulation when it is to be used outdoors. Buy this from an insulation contractor and use it. It will be better than tapes if properly applied.
2. Make sure the insulation is the proper thickness for your locale. High temps and humidity will cause the outside of the insulation to sweat (condensed moisture) if the insulation is too thin for the conditions. That is why there are different thicknesses for the same pipe diameter. You can always sleeve a larger size over existing insulation if sweating occurs.
3. Make sure all butt joints of the insulation are very well made with the manufacturer's contact adhesive. DO NOT depend on tapes as a vapor barrier unless they are used or recommended by the insulation manufacturer. Water will condense on the pipes themselves if moisture can get inside and this can cause potetial corrosion issues over time.

Most of the line set is usually covered by the line cover, the armaflex usually lasts as long as the unit does so when its time to replace the unit the tech will replace the insulation, I usually put regular black duct tape over it anyway. Rooftop units usually get baked by the sun and the insulation gets dry, cracks and falls off, wrapping it with foil tape helps reflect the sun. Are you installing a Daikin mini split ?
