"Shell told customers it would raise prices on finished lubes by up to 8 percent effective Feb. 22. “This adjustment is due to increasing costs of raw materials used in the production and delivery of our products,” the company said in its on Jan. 13 letter, also noting that in certain instances, prices for specific products may change by different amounts.

Citing “the recent rise in raw material costs,” which impact the manufacturing and transportation of its lubricants and greases, Chevron in a Jan. 19 letter informed customers it would increase prices on all lubricating oils, gear lubes and greases by an average of 6 to 10 percent effective March 1. In some cases, the letter noted, certain prices may change more or less than the general increase.

BP Lubricants in a Jan. 21 letter told customers it will raise prices by up to 8 percent effective March 8 on all passenger car commercial, industrial and ancillary products, including synthetics, in all package types."

etc. etc. etc.

Prices at my local Wal-Mart (SW WA -- PDX) shot up a fortnight ago:
PP jug is $23.50, M1 EP is $27.50, ST - $17.50, MC blend $13.50.
Did not Government tell you there is no inflation? That computers and other staple gets more and more affordable? Excluding energy and bread, of course..

I'll bet this is due to the coming API SN/ILSAC GF-5 requirements - oil formulators are starting to have to blend and test these oils; and the cost of materials going into the oils is going up, or there is more of it.

Should have told me when I was traveling to Taiwan. Their meds are 1/3 of our price here and I bought back 360 pills for my dad.

That might make them SEEM a little more affordable.
The boutique oils come from the majors.

Which oils are cheaper now compared to last month? My quick glance shows the same prices.

All passenger car and diesel oils are down. SSO has come down about $10.00 or so for a case of 12. ASL also came down about 12 dollars or so too. Any of the Amsoil sponsors care to chime in on this?

I asked a tech at the local Autozone why the price of SYNTHETIC oil went up.

He said because the price of a barrel of crude went up.

To that I replied:

WHAT?

SYNTHETIC by definition is MAN made!

It's not made from crude!

He was totally dumbfounded by this revelation!

The kid at the local gas station once told me that unleaded gas costs more because they have to take the lead out!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!

No wonder other countries are leaving us in the dust!

What do you think they start with to make synthetic? It just takes more processing steps with a PAO or an ester than dino. Of course, some of the synthetic is identical to dino, thus garbaging the definitions.

Makes sense when there was leaded gas it was .59 per gallon.

Men. Soylent green oil. Ever wonder why GC and Schaeffers is green?

Group III synthetic is made from hydrocracked petroleum by product (WAX), so yeah, if oil price goes up then synthetic price goes up too.

Also since dino is cheaper, if dino price goes up then synthetic has the excuse to go up as well.
