Fine filtration from Donaldson filters

Anyone know about the uses of Donaldson filters? I seen some on the shelf at a parts store and was wondering if they could be used as an inline transmission spin-on filter. Some of the filters go down to 3 microns absolute. This filter was about 9 inches long and about 3 or 4 inches in diameter. The filter media was something called syntec I think. With a filter of this size, would there be more than enough oil flow through the filter? Or would a dual spin on head with 2 filters be sufficient? Would there be enough oil pressure from the transmission pump to force the oil through just one spin on filter? I am thinking of doing this set-up if it would work.

You want to pick a filter or filter head with a bypass valve.. Usually the cooler line comes from the torque converter as the torque converter is what really heats up the oil . usually a PHA size filter is good for a trans.

You probably won't find any 3um filters in a 3/4-16 thread. I also doubt that you'll find too many 3um filters from Donaldson with a common hydraulic thread (1-12).

Don't worry about filter flow. The skinny line running all that distance is hard enough to handle (no, it's not).

Find the part number of the filter you're thinking of. Find the thread ..find a mount ..price the mount. It won't be a $30+S&H Permacool. Northerntool has 1-12 hydraulic head (w/filter) for about $20 delivered. About the finest you'll find in that thread is 10um nominal. 25um would be more common.
