Rather than go out and buy a digital angle finder I have a sliding t-bevel like this one.

https://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Leve...mp;psc=1&refRID=CMTG3Q48ERDAVWTG41G9

I also have a rafter square like this one.

If I put the t-bevel on the angle I want to find and tighten it up then hold it against the flat part of the rafter square so the t-bevel blade runs across the markings and the pivot point it lined up would that be fairly accurate?

Am I thinking correctly or do I need to go to bed and look at it again in the morning.

Sorry it was late and I had more than my usual one beer after work.

I'm picking up a couple new lawn mower blades this morning for my mower and was curious what degree they sharpen them at from the factory. Plus I'm going to email Toro support and let them know since it appears they don't, here is their reply when I contacted support.

Dear Jeffrey,

Thank you for your recent email.

The blade have a preform angle. Please file the blade while keeping the same angle.

Hope this helps!

That's not very helpful!

But, for sharpening a mower blade, your method will be plenty accurate.

I like multiple angles on the blades:.steeper on the final sharpened edge in front of the relaxed factory grind.

Don't forget to check balance after sharpening

Yes sir, I decided if I was going to sharpen my own blades I was going to do it right, plus I don't have many reasons to tinker in the garage these days so I thought this would be fun. I purchased one you mount to the wall.

It will be interesting to see how balanced they are from the factory.

I'm hoping this is the case, I also purchased the All American Sharpener and that is what the jig is set to. The one blade I sharpened last week is about five years old and has been sharpened by a couple different mower shops at least twice a year and it was way off.

I think this is one of them topics one has to agree to disagree on as I can see both sides of the argument but you can see which way I went.

Paint the blade with marking pen and file to the existing angle just like mower company said, the filed new area being the guide for brain and hand. That's the most accurate way IMO. The marking pen is like bluing. You can better see where the filing is happening. Digital cheap gages aren't accurate. An old school precision bevel protractor is better, but this is a mower blade. You don't need angle gage blocks and a surface grinder. Your way to find out angle is fine, if it is near 30 or whatever, it probably is 30. Let's say you determine the angle is 30 degrees 3 minutes. how are you going to set that up at home to grind that exactly anyway?

USA made rafter squares, levels, and other such things can be found at HD and such, rather than made in China from HF and they are cheap.

Sounds like it isn't that critical. Maintaining a 30' edge with a 1/32 -1/64 step would remove the least metal Accuracy greater than required is wasted effort
