That's true but the lightest 20wt oil Amsoil offers, their XLZ 0W-20 is not a long drain oil, it fact it is limited to 10,000 miles the same as for the Toyota oil.
It's Amsoil's Sig' series ASM 0W-20 that is their long drain oil which is heavier still and more expensive. This oil would be a particularly poor choice in the OP's application since you can't take advantage of the long drain attribute without voiding the cars warranty.
I would agree that the main advantage of the Toyota oil is maximizing fuel economy but it is also to minimize wear on start-up. Keep in mind the ultra high VI Toyota oil was developed to address the lubrication problems associated with hybrid vehicles.
It was only later that Toyota decided to specify it for their non-hybrid cars and trucks. It's lubrication advantages wouls apply to all engines.
The reason I prefer high VI oils has nothing to do with fuel economy, but rather the improved cold driveabilty and quicker warm-up such oils provide.
