SO...
Have there been any definitive conclusions as to what one is better or are they basically the same ?

Is the gold a "super oil" like the green was ?

I have used some of all of them, and I could tell no difference.. however I don't use the UOA as a tool either. I think if there were any difference to one or the other ( no matter which one better) the UOA, VOA etc tools would have caught it, and BITOG users are fanatics about any changes made to the beloved oil they have chosen to use as the grail of oils... the GC, specifically the green was at least that if not more, and again I have seen nothing in the form of my use, others post, nor via UOA/VOA ( I will admit I have not checked much lately on this) that nothing changed other than the color.. I myself did like the green the bestest by far... but it's only dye.

on edit: I'm not much on telling anyone to use the search engine, because if everyone done that we would have no new post !! However a huge amount of information just popped up when I typed in german castrol green in the search engine.

Negative.

What you would have is more discussion on the SAME SUBJECT within the SAME threads. The threads would continue with the new members would get their questions answered and if they had any more questions the existing thread would contain it. Plus if people watch the thread they get a email with the new question. Start a new thread and many WILL miss it.

That way more info in less threads. We don't need (or want) dozens of threads on the same subject. Does no one any good.

Did Gold lose the approval or did GC lose the approval after it changed to Gold? Are you implying a difference between gold and green or a change in Porsche recommendations?

Hi,
GMorg - No SAE30 lubricant has been specified for Porsche engines since MY99 (A40 List). Prior to that Castrol had Formula SLX 0W-30 and TXT Softex Plus 5W-30 on Porsche's Approved List

Porsche's VW derived engines (C30 List) allows SAE30 lubricants that follow VW Approvals

How are the UOA's comparing for the green and the gold German Castrol?

Does this information imply a misunderstanding on AJ's part or are the two points unrelated?

Audie Junkie's comment implied that Gold was inferior to Green. I was trying to make sure that people did not interpret the lack of Porsche approval as a demonstration of reduced performance. They are independent events. We can argue about whether Green or Gold is better, but it is not valid to use the Porsche lack of approval as evidence.

This is what I was trying to get to the bottom of and reinforces my line of thinking.

Hi,
GMorg - Your comments are correct. There are a number of Castrol SAE30 lubricants on Porsche's C30 (VW derived engine families) List which embraces VW504/VW507 requirements

Removing all SAE30 lubricants (including Castrols) from Porsche's A40 (Porsche engine families) List in MY1999 was purely viscosity related as I recall

AJ is very aware of this having had it pointed out to him on numerous occasions!

Castrol's formulations are confusing. Edge is their high end product range for retail sales. The Professional SLX series has been assembled for the VW Group as their service fill WW as I understand it

Confusing? Take their 10W-60 viscosity for example - the BMW version has ester components, Castrol's RS 10W-60 has PAO components. The RS is also very popular in Euro racing circles

Here's my contention...
There are many and varied reasons for the car companies to recommend oil and things like the EPA interfere with them. So this or that recommendation may or may not be so important (except for viscosity guidelines).

What is important is UOA's. Can someone shed some light on the old green vs gold vs other newer oils.

How do green and gold compare and is there another newer "go to" oil that competes with or outdoes German Castrol?
