I must have misunderstood your earlier post. I thought you were referring to the Neon. The PT does have a horizontal mount for the filter, but my 04 Neon is vertical just as you mentioned earlier. However it looks like the reason the ST3600 is working is due to the shorter length of the E-Core design.

No ..I'm the one that's mistaken. I was under the impression, falsely so apparently, that the PT is a NEON (drivetrain-wise) in upscale clothing. I would find it odd that they would make a lateral filter arrangement for the PT ..and cast all different stuff for the NEON

Apparently all 2.4 DOHC engines in the same "generation" are not created equal

I just used a napa gold (wix filter) for my rinse phase. which is up right now. after the trip to SC this past week. havent been able to change it due to weather and not knowing which oil to goto next. I am leaning to PP.

I'm currently using a Mann for my Auto-RXing, which I really shouldn't do...waste of a good filter :\ I think I'll just use a cheapie STP or SuperTech for the next phases.

Have you not been reading?

An effective ARX treatment will tax your filter. You want to use a good filter. A Mann is a fine choice here and is being put to good use. An ARX treatment is not the time to be using cheapie filters.

i used a purolator pure one, my last oil change. oil still came back out black, after 3 moonths, and 1,000 miles, BUT! it wasnt as black or dirty as other various filters ive used! form purolator, to fram( the worst in my opinion) to ac delco. so that tells me, the pure1 is doing a good job; )

use (oversized if you can) Pure 1 for best results and change it often. twice as much as recomended. that s what i would do. the rinse is going to have a lot of stuff in the oil dont you want it caught. cheap oil. good filter

I used a Bosch for the Auto-RX clean and a Mahle (same as Mann?) for the rinse phase in my Porsche.

In my little Mazda beater I just used generic (probably made by Fram) filters from Canadian Tire and Pennzoil. I may try a Quaker State now as I think it is a Purolator. We have very limited choices at retail in Canada. Mostly Fram and rebranded Fram.
