filter for use with Valvoline MaxLife syn blend

Both the GF's Matrix and my MR2 will be changed over to Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend 5w30 and I need a filter recommendation (preferably something at Walmart).

Both cars use the same filter, FRAM 4967 size.

The matrix sees only city miles with short trips (12 miles round trip daily) and the MR2 sees 30 mile round trips mixed highway/ surface roads 60/40.

Would like to use the same filter for both cars because OCD.

Generally 5-6 months for both which equates to like 3k miles for the matrix and 4.5k miles for the MR2.

What you do is use the Fram Ultra and even if your oci is 3k you can leave the Ultra on for up to its 15,000 mile rating and those in between oil changes get a lot easier when you don't have to mess with the filter, just drain the pan and fill it up, that's what I do on my vehicles

I agree. For that oil change interval, these would work just fine (or even the regular Extra Guard).
I would only use the Ultra if you plan on leaving the filter on for 3-4 oil changes (9,000-12,000 miles).
Another option is to get some of these from e-bay. The Fram Pro are the same as the Tough Guard, just white paint and no grippy stuff on them. Works out to $3.33 a filter.

Yup! Short interval is for the oil...FU can go much longer.

Since u have 2 cars w the same oil filter, perhaps u can order in bulk from rock auto as it'll be less expensive than Walmart and deAling w the walmartians. Wix and Fram can be had for under $2. Shipping for 6 is the same as 2 filters. I would probably go w the wix

I use factory, even the case is heavier than the Fram, a factory tech told me no on Fram's. In. Y GM I use AC Delco there too. Had the oil pan off my 1978 for repainted and a new gasket, the inside of the engine was clean, Valvoline and a Delco filter all those years.

This was the deal until recently. The white can Fram Pros are internally similar as the Fram orange can. Motorking, the Fram rep, confirmed it in a thread a month ago. They have Orange can media, fiber end caps, and an encore tube (plastic).

I posted this in one of your other threads. IMO this is the best deal available to you. The Fram ultra has a construction that is as good as it gets, with filtration to match. 99.5% at 20 microns. It's the highest quality option on the table.

This could be your cheapest option too. If you follow that link there, you'll get it for $4.49 per filter delivered to your door. That's a better price than you would give for an orange can at Walmart, AND an ultra could easily handle 3 OCIs. $1.49 per OCI? That's pretty good.

OK, I was going off his post back from 2014 where he said the white FP was a Tough Guard.
You are right though, the White FP filters are now regular Extra Guards (same as orange cans, no grippy stuff), although some may be older e-core filters. $3.33 a filter for them is an OK price though. The Supertech filter is cheaper though.
Fram Pro Synthetic (FPS) are still the Ultra Guards.
I see where he said it in this thread. I had actually posted in that one about it but for some reason did not see the responses to it. Good to know because I was thinking of buying some of the FP filters for a 10,000 mile use.

100 miles, 3K miles, 10K miles, I would use the FU, and, only once. All of you that think it MUST stay on the engine for 20 or more OCI's, are probably having cardiac arrest after reading my reply. To each his own.

One filter for one OCI is a travesty to our environment. Some auto manufacturers are already recommending every-other OCI for filter change and in another five years, they all will recommend every-other.

Currently I run 6K OCIs. I change the silicone ADBV Tough Guard filter at every-other.... 12K. It's fine after 12k and could hold even more gunk. Recycle and preserve!

I've never seen anyone on here advocate using an oil filter for 20 OCIs, the most any automaker recommends is two. That's a lot different than twenty.

The use of bold, underlining, exclamation points and italics notwithstanding there's no technical basis for saying two OCIs is somehow dangerous.

2, 20, it's still more than the 1 time I will only use an oil filter per OCI.
