As I've posted in other subforums I'm getting all the fluids replaced on my 2005 CTS with the 3.6L V6. I've checked everywhere and can't seem to find an OEM ACDelco filter, except for one really expensive one at O'Reilly that doesn't even seem to have a GM part number. Are they all pretty much the same? Should I just get a Duralast from Autozone or Carquest filter from Advance?

I have the GM 5L40-E in my BMW (they call it a A5S360R) and I've just bought the filters from RockAuto or FCPEuro. I don't think there's much difference in quality if you choose a name brand filter.

I just make sure that the gasket that comes with the filter is of the metal type. Some cheap kits offer a cork gasket and that's not what came on my vehicle from the factory so I always try to keep things similar to the way it was manufactured.

It's elastomer coating on a steel core. Typically they last pretty well.
This one did not. lol. It was hard and not reusable. Mostly because I assume it was 20 years old. That's right, I don't think anyone has ever serviced this transmission in 20 years and 184k miles. It had a Filtran filter (OEM is my understanding) with a supposed date code of 2004 on it. The fluid was black and but strangely didn't smell burnt and not ton of material other than what was on the magnet. I only managed to replace about 5 1/2 qts so I'll likely do a drain and fill again soon.
