A mate of mine had just bought a 1990 Falcon panel van and brought it around for me to check it out.He was concerned about the oil light coming on at idle and wanted to check the oil pressure. So we plugged in the gauge - it had only 10psi at idle,30psi if we revved it.The motor was a sweet runner and low oil pressure seemed out of character,so I suggested a flush then oil and filter change. With the flush in oil pressure dropped even more, but the oil we dropped out sure was filfy.New oil and filter and idle pressure is 40psi,going to 60 before the releif cut in - phew! she's a good motor after all.
Oh - the old filter was a Fram PH8A and when I took it off it rattled when shook.I've cut it open and she's a mess, all the bad stories about Fram are true.I've got photo's ,but they've made posting images on this site a bit of a hassle.
