Filter decisions... again

I certainly have no reason to doubt that. I have heard that some STs are not Ecore based on diameter but I have never seen one that wasn't. I have also never seen a recent STP that wasn't. I didn't open all the boxes. One day about a year ago I tried to look at every part number on the shelf and they were all Ecores. Regarless of the diameter thing. So I have to go with your answer.

Checked wally last night. ST7317 is junk. $2.50. Metal center tube, but at the dome end theres a large Blue plastic bypass. No way am I running that. Looks like a temporary pipe cap-off. Base plate had glue all around it in places I've never seein my life. They didn't list anything other than the ST & Fram. They didn't carry a MC FL822 either... so My choices:

P1 for $6.49 @ AAP, Kmart?, Pepboys

Bosch for $6.49 @ Autozone

Pclassic for $4.49 @ AAP, Kmart?, Pepboys

STP for $4.49 @ Autozone

Valucraft for $2.49 @ Autozone

Advance Auto brand (red one/Purolators) for $0.95 @ AAP! On clearance, whatever is left.

That's it in a nut shell. The only two premium filters are the Bosch vs P1. Not really sure what the difference is....

If you did not like the ST, the STP will be the same filter, I beleive. Both are made by Champion.

The STP 3950 I have on my truck now wasn't an Ecore. Instead, it has a junky dome end bypass. It is possible it is a low volume number and is old stock.

When I managed a factory, I sometimes put 6-12 months worth of slow movers in the warehouse.

The rebate has been going on for awhile ... been mentioned on this site many times.

Rebate form -- looks like it's over now. May 1 thru Sep 30th:

This link shows all the retailers that carry the Purolator fitlers just in case anyone wondered.

Yeah, I kinda missed that rebate deadline lol. I did hit up Kmart just now on lunch break. Sure enough, they carry Puolator at a better price than Poopboys or AAP. Picked up a PL14610 for $5.89+tax. 60 cents cheaper. Looks like P1 has changed their texture finish, for the better. the old stuff was crumbly. the ADBV also looks better I think. This 14610 has a bypass I've never seen before though... it's a flat round plate in the dome. I'm used to their older system of the small spring and hole in the end of the cap.

Last time I bought a ProSelect it was just a hair over $5. But it depends on the application. The 1040 which is a more common filter than the $5+ one that I bought is under $3 last time I checked.

Napa pro select varies greatly by filter. I purchased one about a year ago for about a hair under 3 bucks. But it was 1/2 the size of the ST3980 and pf52...

So K-mart is the best/cheaptest option for me. Purolator oil filters are still made in the USA correct? I forgot to check that yesterday...

Not sure if every Purolator oil filter is made in the USA. I thought I read someplace that some are not.

I use the PL14006 and PL14610 PureONEs, and I just looked on the label on the side of the filter and is says "Made in USA".

I hope Purolator doesn't move production to China or ???.
