Would there be any benefit by doing a filter change at 1/2 the OCI? Everybody's been talking about 2x the OCI, but what about 1/2?

The filter will not in any way be compromised, unless it is defective. The only time I would do it would be during a ARX.

I never understood nor adopted that practice. In owner's manuals, I see the every 2x method suggested, but not a mid-oci change. Mobil 1 EP does not suggest a filter change over 15k. Also, Audi oem Mann filters say 2years/30,000km on them. Unless filters are expensive for your application and you want to do an every 2x filter change with basic oil, a 1:1 correspondence seems ideal.

To expand on Pablo's view there. If you're doing extended drains, as you might with an Amsoil spec'd OCI, you may want to refresh some of the sump. The easiest way to accomplish this is by swapping out the filter. The suggested practice has to span many operational conditions.

If you're not running an extended drain, and have no fear of TBN retention, then you are probably not going to load a filter in 15k of usage. This has to be qualified by saying that the 15k has to be accummulated over a reasonable time. So if you're basing your OCIs on mileage, then an every other sump swap will probably work just fine for the filter. If you're using time, then other issues would probably make it wise to change the filter with the sump. Keep in mind that either of those recommendations have to cover a broad span ..and also have to be practical.
