Few questions about filters

So I cut open a few filters today (crudely with a hacksaw) and have some questions.

Which is superior, a dome end bypass like found in a Purolator, or a thread end bypass like found in filters such as the Wix?

On my jeep, the filter is mounted horizontally. It seems to have start up noise with Pure One filters. I've had good luck with Wix and Purolator Classics. Which one is a better filter for the money? I do 5,000 mile OCIs and lots of short trips.

I like the threaded end bypass because if it bypasses it does not wash anything off the filter.

Both filters are great, and should work very well for most applications. If you personally are having better luck with one filter over another, then by all means go for one of those.

In terms of by-pass valves, its arguable that a thread end is better, due to the fact that the oil doesn't pass over the dirty media first like a dome end. This gives minimal chance of dislodging any dirt trapped in the filter, when the filter does go into by-pass.

If the filter is like in the example in the link then yes a threaded end bypass is ideal but if it is on its side then its not going to matter IMO.
