Ferrari encounter

on highway 41 going north about 20 miles north of kettleman city.... i believe it was a newer 430, hard top, black... my girlfriend was driving her kia so at the red light we tried to speed up and move out of his way as he was behind us, we got up to 40mph finally and moved over to the right, i think the guy was still in 1st gear when he tore past us and all we heard was the high pitch whine of the engine... i was like "badasssss!" and told her to catch up so i could check it out.... didn't happen until the next light about 3 miles down the road. This time side by side, when the light turned green he was gone......he got like10 car lengths up before changing gears and was a dot.

my blood was pumping, just wondering what it would be like to experience that much power.

anyone think a 2006 corvette C6 with a supercharger could take it?

It's about a dead heat with a stock 505 hpC6 Z06 Corvette.

You can pull more than 505 hp out of the base 400 hp C6 without resorting to supercharging, so if your talking straight line performance, no sweat with asupercharger.

The Ferrari's twisty road performance shouldn't be much different than the Z06 either.

There's a lot more to cars than numbers though.

I'm not up on my Ferrari's lately, even though I joined Ferrarichat.com. to keep up with Dr.AE HAAS, and his ENZO. The Doc. is a Grand Guy, and had a crash with the ENZO, and I hope he has it back on the STRADA! Bring us up to date Doc. Please.

I don't know if a blower would make much of a difference. The stock Corvette, might do the job as is. If you have the ZO6--427cid and 500hp. I think that car has a top speed of almost 200mph. depending on conditions.

Fast Cars=$$$$$$. How fast do you want to go?

fast off the line, so lots of torque... reaching top speed quickly.... or 70-80% of it's top speed quickly... no need to drive around at 200mph, or even 90.... just the kick in the pants of getting to a fast speed very quickly, but im sure that would get old after a while and something faster would be wanted.

so a stock 06 corvette can be squeezed to 500+ huh, wow....

And all the money in the world can't find enough open road to really have fun, IMO.

But's it's always fun to see one. I remember irritating some guy in an old, but beautiful 275GTB. He was having a hard time pulling away from my old Chrysler boat from light to light here in town, and my (purposefully) dumb questions after he was rude at the single innocent one I intended to ask ("Hey, which model is that?).

Too hot inside and out to keep the windows closed.

A guy at my church built a cobra recently. He is running a 429. I love the Type 65 Coupe they have. Maybe one day I'll be able to build one. Right now a new house and a toddler take all my time and $$$.

Watch some of the videos on the site showing a Cobra eating a Viper.

No they can't be squeezed to that, they are over that as delived by GM. Rumor has it the fuel economy is still pretty good too like double what you get out of a Viper. Not that that really matters to someone that can afford one. Believe it is just over 3000lbs and the front mounted engine, rear transaxle makes for wonderful balance.

The Vette is one **** of a car and genuinely can hang with most of the "supercars" and is more comfortable too. It shows what GM can do if they care too.

the more i read about these neweer vettes, the more i'm impressed....fuel economy, performance, quality....power...style.... the best bang/buck when it comes to combining all of those, not sure why GM sells them at the price they do, thats kinda low, really...

I believe he meant 2006 by "06". The base Corvette is 400 hp, The Z06 is 505hp.

Fuel economy does matter to most of my fellow C6 owners that I know. Being able to afford a C6 doesn't mean that you like to throw money away or don't appreciate efficient machinery.

About 427 cubic inches instead of 364, better breathing and stronger internal parts to make it live better at higher revs.

427/364 x 400 HP = 469 HP. So there's most of the increase right there.

IIRC, headers, some intake manifold cleanup and a mild cam adds about 50 to 60 hp to a 400 hp version.

The ZO6 motor has lots of titanium and is dry sump oiling, fairly exotic for such a mass produced car. I believe the heads are CNC ported as well.

Far as milage I know many with the money it takes to own one of these are still frugal(I work for a guy like that), just meant if you can afford one you don't have to worry about economy, they choose too. Then again cars like this tend to be safe which brings insurance down in many cases so cost to operate is probably quite low compared to a lot of other vehicles on the road.
