Feedback on idea please for filter/oil

Yes, the difference is mainly construction and the rated "up to xyz miles" use rating, which is a function of holding capacity.
So what's your opinion of how far you would push the limits of these filters to their milage rating? Oil life a side, just focusing only on the filter, as I will change the oil every 8k miles regardless. Do you think I would be safe squeezing the actual miles the filter is rated for from the filter? Or would you maybe go 80% just to be safe? If the tough guard (rated for 10k) is for example $9, but the ultra or titanium is rated for 20k, but only $15, it would be a better deal for me to get the $15 filter, and just change the oil every 8k miles but leave the filter on for another 8k. Plus it obviously makes a little less work in addition to those savings. Whats your opinion of this logic? Also what about going for three 8k oil changes on the Fram Endurance (rated for 25k miles)? Or is that pushing it too much?

I’m letting an Endurance 10575 drain right now. It had 7500 miles on HPL PCEO 5w30 and just finished a 15,912 mile OCI on the No VII Euro 5w30, so just under 23,500 miles on the filter. I gotta find my cutter (or ship it to @53' Stude!) to cut it open and see.

I know @Linctex said he had almost 50k on a filter, can’t remember what brand but it was a handful of years in service.

Using a filter for more than one OCI depends on how clean the engine currently is, the total planned miles put on the filter, if you plan on using something that will start cleaning any deposits (like HPL oils or the new Valvoline Restore & Protect), and of course what filter you plan on using. As mentioned, you don't really want to use a low efficiency filter for long total use, because if it loads up it will slough off already captured debris worse than a high ISO rated efficiency filter. Use a high efficiency filter with a long rated use - The Endurance and a few others fit that requirement.

I'd do what you originally thought ... I wouldn't push the Endurance, or any other filter, to it's full "up to" use rating unless the engine was pretty new and spotless inside. If you were doing 6K-7K OCIs and the engine was clean inside, then going 18K-21K on the Endurance would be a decent use out of it. If doing 8K-10K OCIs, I'd just use the Endurance for two OCIs ... give it some headroom.

My idea is, for example, the Fram Endurance filter says it's rated for 25,000 miles. What I'm wondering is if I was to run a high quality full synthetic oil, and change it every 8k miles, what do y'all think about simply changing the synthetic oil at 8k, but leaving the Fram Endurance (supposedly 25k mile filter) on there for the next 8k miles? So this would be basically using that one filter for 16k miles, but changing the oil only at 8k miles? Just curious of your thoughts.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

Now as far as the engine goes, it's a Japanese engine (take that for what you will depending on how you look at Japanese technology). The previous owner was a middle age woman who drove very easy. No hot rodding, and no super short trips, and rarely stop and go traffic. She changed the oil every 3k to 5k miles like clockwork and was the original owner. No towing, and not even a bunch of passengers inside. Now when she changed the oil at 3k to 5k, I'm pretty sure she just took it to just various lube shops and had whatever filter and oil they bulk supplied. She told me she always planned to change it at 3k but occasionally she would run over some waiting to find time to get it in. Sometimes this would be 3,500. Sometimes 4k. Rarely did she push it to 5k. My understanding though is the manufacturer (Nissan) said the oil is supposed to be changed every 5k. So her changing more often than not at 3k, even with a cheap oil and filter, considering the easy life it has, it's probably pretty clean. I changed the oil for her a couple times before I purchased the vehicle and even when she asked me to change it, the oil coming out still looked more like tea than coffee.

Fram Tough Guard,
I still have it ..
I’ll probably head out to the ranch in the next few days & grab it - and cut it open
That's wild. What kind of vehicle / engine is it ok? How many miles did the engine have on it when you installed it? How often do you change the oil and what type of oil do you use?
