I've been doing the DE shaving thing for about 3 years and it has turned into a hobby. I started off with the mild Edwin Jagger DE 89 and added the ultra aggressive Muhle R41 last year.
I've always had my eye on the Feather ASD2,but could not justify spending nearly 200 dollars on it. I found a deal on black Friday and picked it up for $119.

It arrived in a classy box. The first thing I noticed was the outstanding fit and finish. The 316 grade stainless steel exudes quality. The blade is always perfectly centered, something l cannot say for my other two razors. It shaves exactly the same from both sides.

My concern was that it may be too mild for my heavy beard. That has not been the case. Once l found a good angle and refined my technique with it, l get close shaves with very little irritation. Even with the ultra sharp Feather blades, l hardly know l am shaving. It seems this razor is a perfect match for Feather blades.

It takes more passes to get the close shave with this razor, but it is so smooth and enjoyable that l do not mind it,especially with the low irritation level.

It was an expensive proposition, but it will easily last a lifetime with the high grade stainless steel construction. I am satisfied with the purchase. I realize that it is not for everybody especially at its price point.

$119 is an excellent price on that razor. Glad to see you're enjoying it. Might want to try Kai or polsilver blades as well...

for a all stainless razor that is pretty good.
I wish weber was still selling whole razors not just handles because JUST as I was about to purchase one for ($70)he stopped selling them. its not the quality of the feather but they are a solid unit. I saw one on ebay the other day for 250 buy it now INSANE
Ikon is a option but more expensive over 100
wolf man? way more money like 300 CDN
above the tie expensive
there are SO many boutique companies coming out of the wood work it is crazy
funny thing is a lot of DE shavers started with wet shaving as a way to save money
not so easy if you buy every 200 dollar razor made and have two of some models.

a ASD2 at under 150 seems like something I will have to watch for.
Is the R41 a 2013 vintage I hear that one is the most aggressive one.

as for me I have 3 razors
a FATBOY 50$
A slim 7$
and a Chinese ball end tech copy 3$
I have wet shaved for 3 years
and since I don't have RAD I am actually saving money.

keep in mind though
DONT SOAK THE ASD2 in anything other than hot water with a few drops of "DAWN"
a guy soaked his in a water/tilex? mix on BADGER AND BLADE the next day the finish was ruined. Even though it is made from stainless it is still plated or chromed
but like I said the BONES are stainless unlike your EJ89 which I think is chromed ZMAK
I am sure you have tried them but just in case. Try PERSONNA blues the 11-13 dollar per 100 blades on amazon
My wife worked with a guy who had a ASD2 he only used feather blades
until I sent her to work with a few DERBY, a few ASTRA platinum, and a few PERSONNA blues. He liked the blues so much I think he switched and is saving like 13 dollars per 100 from what he was paying for the feathers

Love these threads. Its more about a hobby shaving...lol.
I'm hooked. Just starting out.

I bought a Merkur and a noname.
I have yet to try feather blades but so far I really like the Dorcos

I haven't graduated yet to a cup and brush. I think it would be hard to beat the Gillette gels

I have shaved with a DE razor decades ago and have also used a straight razor. I intend to buy a good straight razor in the future.

One thing I do is shave first with a panasonic wet shaver and then follow up with the DE. And once in a while I will follow up on both with a disposable Wilkerson....Krazy

I would like to try the Feather razor, but I'm not spending $200 to do so. I really like my Merkur Progressive razor and it was only about $80. Don't care for the Feather blades at all. They are actually too sharp for my beard. That may not make sense to some, but they actually won't hold an edge long enough for me to get through one shave because they're so sharp. I prefer Astra Platinums, Personna Reds, and the Personna Labs. None of these are as sharp as the Feathers, but they will hold their edge all the way through the shave. They provide a nice, clean shave with no tugging or nicks, and very little (if any) irritation...and the Progressive can be set as mild, or as aggressive as you want...

Everybody has their own methods and shaving supplies that work best for them. For me, I get my best shaves when doing my 1st pass using my Atra, then doing my 2nd and 3rd passes using my Merkur...

Right I am using my Merkur razor (fixed) with Astra Blades. Have yet to try the Feather. I don't have a heavy beard so they will be fine (probably)

Just received my vintage (1962) adjustable Gillette and am looking forward to trying it with various blades. Surprising how small it is compared to my modern, long-handled Merkur.

I have the Merkur....I will be interested. I have tried Merkur, Cloud, ASTRA, Dorco blades. I threw the Clouds away. The Merkur ate nothing to write home about. I have Feather but have not tried them yet. Dorco is OK. ASTRA is better.

My Merkur is the 23C, the long-handled, non-adjustable. Works well with the Gillette 7 O'Clocks and Personna Reds.

I tried the Gillette adjustable this morning, and I'm quite pleased. The blade I used was Israel-made (the eBay seller had bought a pack to make sure modern blades would fit the 1962 razor, and then he sent them along as a freebie). With the setting at 3, I was aware of bristles being cut; at 5, a little more sensation. At no point was there irritation, and I never felt out of control, even though the Gillette has a much shorter handle and the weight setup is different from the Merkur.

There were good reasons why Gillettes were big sellers in those days, and good reasons why people are willing to buy them now.

You should try the Merkur Progressive...I really like mine...I would also like to try the Gillette...I had a speed and liked it, I can imagine I would like the adjustable even more...

After a number of weeks with My Merkur razor trying different blades: Merkur, Astra, Dorco, Cloud. I tried Feather Blades. Immediately threw all of the others away. For me, no comparison. I doubt I will try anything else.
