FBI saved Russell Crowe from Al Qaeda

What better way to freak out people than kidnapping and killing a Hollywood idol? I wish they would have picked Striesand or Michael Moore though....there's always hope! (Just a joke, calm down)

Seems like a waste of good taxpayers money to me! Is Crowe even an American citizen? I have never met the man nor even have a perception of his own personal politics.

While I am not saying that Crowe is a Hollywood "lefty", why should the Hollywood types be left out of the chaos?

It is probably not really known that Hollywood products are a HUGE Export of the USA!! One side of it is the work they do is a major reason why Islamic/Muslim, dare I say MOST of the world hates us. (not that I really care one way or the other) When folks point to the USA as being devoid of morals, lower than Sodom & Gamorah, degenerate, etc, etc,. they usually use a Hollywood movie as a metaphor or GRAPHIC representation. Yet there might be some envious truth about Hollywood types because of the perception they live more over the top than most of us do in our wildest fantasies.

I think it is really lost on the Hollywood lefties that the 9/11 attack happened in NYC which is probably on the whole, a lot more liberal than say Orange County, CA which is historically more conservative.

Good points ruking. I would think Hollywood and it's actors would be a prime target if the terrorists really wanted to go after the root cause of our supposed "decadence and immorality".

Good work, but the next question is...why ??

Why did we protect him? It is our duty and moral obligation to provide safety and security to anyone in this country whether they are a citizen or not.

The terrorist could target any high profile celebrity or any major building, etc. All who speak English should consider themselves at risk, as well as those who support us.(look at Spain).

Knocking off the "Gladiator" would have been a big event at that time.

Too bad they couldn't get Mel Gibson. After the first couple "Lethal Weapon" movies, he's been a waste of space.

He is William Wallace. I've watched it a million times. Didn't you like him being be-headed and then crucified In the "Passion"?

A few states that border Mexico; such as CA AZ, NM, etc have been saying security has been lacking for literally at least 3 decades....

So why did a prior 2 term president totally ignore all the warning signs for the FIRST WTC bombing which culminated in "success" on 9/11??

Oh sure he sent 500,000 dollar pin point accurate missiles at 5 dollar abandoned training camp tents, but....

I forgot about Braveheart. That wasn't too bad of a movie. I've never had a desire to see "Passion", so I can't comment there.

ScottP,
You gotta be kidding me! Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) was one if his least interesting movies. Didn't you see "We were soldiers"??? Geez guy, that was a fantastic movie. How about "Signs"? Pretty good sci-fi if you ask most people. Some others that are great but I'm not sure what year he made them was "Braveheart", "The Patriot", "Maverick", "Ransom", "Payback", "The Man Without a Face", and of course is greatest achievement (no starring role, he made it and bank rolled it himself) "The Passion Of The ****** ".

I said "the first couple" Leathal Weapon movies. That would be the first two, maybe three. The Patriot was a bit over the top. Maverick was amusing at best. The only thinig going for it was Uncle Jesse getting caught cheating and getting tossed off the boat.

We were Soldiers - Never saw it, wanted to but never got around to it. Ransom had a good twist to it, I admit that. Payback, from the bits I saw was ok.

In regards to Passion, I really don't need to see a guy beat for two plus hours. Just doesn't serve as entertainment to me.

The first two quotes made me expect the opposite reaction on the third. To each his own, although "The Passion" is far more than you described.

The FBI, Border Patrol and some of the other agencies try to do the best they can with the resources available.

Why the politicians in Washington do what they do, I couldn't say.

I just wish we could get together with our friends both North and South of the border and work out some good policy cause we're all in this same boat together, but no one seems to care right now.

How secure is Mexico going to be when all their jobs go to China, too? Off topic, but they don't seem to see the handwriting on the wall for now.

The "Passion" may have been the most historically accurate or trying to be that he ever did. Patriot and Braveheart were junk from a historical perspective, embellished, made-up entertainment. The Passion was not fun to watch, but well.... it happened.

Did the Passion redeem him from taking such a broad fictional brush with Patriot?

With Russell Crowe's money, he could have hired some real professionals to protect him. I'am not saying the F.B.I. protecting him couldn't do the job. It is a waste of taxpayers money to have agents playing baby sitter. I know some Special Ops guys highly trained in CQB that are battle tested. Mr. Crowe could pay them and get far better protection. Guess it saves his wallet to use the people we pay for.

Russell even though born in NZ grew up in Australia. His mate/security is ex South Sydney Rugby League front rower Mark 'Spud' Carroll who was as hard as nails in his playing days. Russell has just signed a contract to sponsor South Syney known by their nickname 'The Rabbitohs' in their first eight games of the 2005 season. See story below.

Rabbitohs set to cash in thanks to Crowe
March 9, 2005

South Sydney is poised to cash in on its high-profile relationship with Russell Crowe by announcing a unique sponsorship deal with the Oscar winner.

It's understood Crowe will promote his film The Cinderella Man - to be released later this year - on the Rabbitohs jersey alongside the NRL club's existing sponsor Real Insurance.

Rabbitohs officials on Wednesday night declined to reveal the exact nature of the unique sponsorship arrangement.

However, they will announce the details at a press conference on Thursday to be attended by Crowe.

"Russell has always been involved with us," chief executive Shane Richardson said on Wednesday.

"We're always excited when we can get people involved with South Sydney football club."

It's understood the sponsorship will be placed on the Souths jersey closer to the movie's release date.

The deal is another coup for Richardson ahead of the club's premiership opener against the Sydney Roosters at Aussie Stadium on Saturday night.

It will also heighten optimism at Redfern after a promising pre-season under new coach Shaun McRae.

Crowe, a life member of the club, has been in regular contact with Richardson to discuss ways to enhance his relationship with the club.

Crowe finished shooting Cinderella Man in Canada last year.

The film tells a story of James Braddock who had a seemingly fairytale like rise from a poor local fighter to heavyweight boxing world champion in the 1930s.

Crowe spent time both sides of the Tasman - he was born here in New Zealand and went to Oz while still very young, but he came back and went to the high school a km from where I'm sitting, formed a band at the school, opened a night club or two, then went back to Aust to be a movie star.He doesn't mention NZ in his upbringing and that's fine by most Kiwi's I think,he's certainly not a hero over here.I've never seen a movie he's been in,and if I do it won't be from choice.
